I suppose this isnt the right forum to post this but it concerns politics which to my mind makes it more appropriate for the Non- GAA forum.
What do people think of this campaign backed by prominent GAA people to drop Alliance sponsorship of the league due to some other arm of their corporation having investments in Israeli companies operating in the Occupied Territories?
Now what's happening in Gaza is genocide in my opinion, there is no other way to describe it but I really don't know what cutting the links with Alliance is going to achieve apart from making some people feel good about themselves. Will the global governance of Alliance change tack? No. Will Alliance be seen as a pariah sponsor for other groups seeking sponsorship? I very much doubt it! (Down through the years I have often wondered why Alliance have bothered to continue sponsoring the national leagues considering the way some of the elite counties, in hurling anyway- treat the league. From a commercial pov I reckon they wont be bothered in the slightest if the GAA severs the link) I would put this campaign in the category of " cutting off your nose to spite your face". I see nothing to be achieved by it except people feeling good and moral about themselves. The signatories to this campaign say they dont care if it means doing without sponsorship for the leagues and that's fine. But I do think there are potentially wider political and economic consequences for Ireland if this campaign to drop Alliance is successful. It will put Ireland even more within the crosshairs of the powerful almost omnipotent Jewish lobby in the US. Statements have already been made by certain US politicians calling for sanctions against Ireland over the proposed Occupied Territories Bill and I expect those voices will get louder and more widespread if the GAA hierarchy follow through with this. Again, I dont have a problem with that as such as long as the people voting for it have their eyes wide open and are aware of the possible repercussions for the country.
But for me the real absurdity of this is the motivation for doing this is because Alliance are named in the UN human rights report. What about all the other corporations that are happy to do business with Israel? ( The tentacles of most corporations go very deep and I have no doubt if the digging went deep enough there would be very few if any corporations in the world that wont have some ties to Israel). But more to the point if the GAA must be political why stop at ditching Alliance? Shouldnt we as a country also seek to leave the EU who are up to their oxters in support of Israel despite the mealy- mouthed lame disapprovals occasionally emanating from Brussels?
When you start a moral crusade like these prominent GAA people are keen to do there is no end point to where the line should be drawn. That's my opinion anyway.

There's more than Allianz in Ireland with connections to Israel. They've been great GAA sponsors for years. Will be hard to get better sponsors than them. If a company has Israeli connections it doesn't always follow that they support Netanyahu's governments actions in Gaza. A lot of Israeli's don't, especially those whose children are in mandatory service in the IDF.

Well I did the double on Linfield (win or draw) lost but have them to qualify over two legs (fingers crossed) Backed Glasgow Rangers tues lost But the highlight was Wednesday Backed Kairat double win or draw v Glasgow Celtic 5/1 and banked a very generous 1,950!

i think challenging Allianz is better than staying quiet. will they stop their involvement in Isreal? Unlikely but better to say something. it isnt simply about people making themselves feel good.
i think being on the right side of genocide can only be a good thing. i think the longer this goes on and the US are seen as more and more complicit then there will be a push back on their role globally. I dont think GAA and any protest against Allianz will even come on radar of many of the prominant voices in US
