Galways forwards and physical power will be way to much for down to cope with it. Down were also gassed with about 15 mins to play on Sunday. Few heads on here still not convinced by bannigan I see. As the only saying goes you can only beat what is in front of you." Monaghan supporters need to keep the head but enjoy the next two weeks at the same time. Being realistic, the team have played one real contender this year and deservedly lost. The group draw was very kind and 6 points was only just secured. But that is not really the point. The point is they started the year looking down, and are now very much looking up. Huge credit to the wider panel and management for that. We have had some great outings all year watching some brilliant football - League final, Athletic Grounds, Newbridge, Navan, Breffni, Cork in Inniskeen. One more big one to come. True, but remember we are a team rebuilding. Monaghan football is in a good place. It could be 2 to 3 years before this panel reaches it's full potential. Next day is a big step up, but it will tell us exactly wher we are at. Of course we want tovwin but a big oerformance will tell us we can live with the big boys. A win would be incedible coming only 2 years after we thought we had reached the end of the glory years with defeat to Dublin in the semi final and retirements looming. The one black cloud I see in all of this was the ousting of Paul O'Connor from his role. A nan who I believe holds a lot of responsibility for our success. Fantastic performance and an incredible game of football on Sunday. If it's one of Donegal, Galway or Dublin in the QF as most expect, it'll be a 50/50 game that could go either way, and with the extra week prep and rest, I'd fancy us against any of them. Hoping for high temperatures and tight difficult games that go to extra time next weekend...! One glaring area to work on is securing possession from our own kick-outs. It was a huge negative Sunday but it's also a very fixable problem. We were a getting a lot more success when Down tired and we sped it up and used the accuracy of Beggan's kicking to pick out runners. O'Hanlon and a few others started picking up easier ball in space, and it took some of the physical contest out of it. Croke Park will suit this approach, as well. Brilliant stuff from team and management so far. We're against the best teams in the country from here on in, and there's no ceiling on what they can achieve. It's the additions to the coaching team this year (Malone and Moran) that is the difference. Not someone who appoints development squad managers. I'm not aware of the in and outs or the politics Paul O'Connor leaving his position. Did he jump or was he pushed? Since Mayo are out now I'd say most of Mayo will be supporting you & Andy Moran . He's doing a great job with you . He will be a Mayo manager in a few years . Best of luck for the rest of the championship you can beat any team when you've got momentum & new manager bounce.
