Replying To SouthMonMan:  "That is a surprise. 15k capacity, Louth fans will fill this on their own.
Kildare v Down in Joe McDonagh cup at 2pm at same venue so probably only 13k for Louth and Monaghan.
Brennan must have been pushing for a ground where they had success already this year, having beating Laois there but surely there were better options to cater for the crowd, i.e. Port Laois or even Tullamore ?"
Absolutely no chance Louth will take anywhere near 15,000 to this game

It wont be full I'd expect 11-12k tops

Replying To seanie08:  "Difficult to know why louth have opted for Newbridge. Maybe Ger Brennan thinks good idea to drag Monaghan out of their comfort zone of ulster grounds familiar to them as we haven't played there that much over the years but it's a strange decision. If they'd gone with Navan been guaranteed 15k louth supporters maybe more they'd taken it over like a home match now be a lot less."
Meath v Cork playing in Navan on same day, so wasn't an option.
Louth probably thought Breffni would favour Monaghan, which is probably correct.

Newry would've been ideal, but with Down playing Louth in Newry in the next game they didn't want to give Louth the experience.

Clearly we wernt going to play the game in Monaghan

Down said no to Newry and can't blame them.

Navan was ruled out as GAA+ wanted the game Sat for TV and Meath are playing

There is a big Motor Sport event on in Cavan next weekend so it was a no go

Newbridge is not even far by the way. From South Louth/Drogheda to Newbridge would be quicker than to Breffni Park, alot quicker at that

Also monaghan are familiar with that pitch with it being and ulster ground, less than a 1 hour from monaghan. Likewise cavan is a stretch for louth supporters. Louth are using newbridge as they have played there . It's probably the the best they could have hoped for with drogheda and Inniskeen out. It will no doubt split the crowd to 50 50 at best.

Monaghan won a Junior B All Ireland title some years ago...there was some homecoming after that one lol

Replying To SouthMonMan:  "Seems like a lot of discussion over an U20 B title, rather than the big senior game against Louth in 2 weeks.

Anyway, this will be my last post on the U20 topic until a congratulatory one (hopefully) if they win the All Ireland.
Agreeing with some posters that the minor teams successes of recent years is not transpiring at U20 level.
Our Minor All-Ireland finalists of 2023 need to be at least pushing for an Ulster title in 2026, if not, we need to wonder what sort of player development is happening, as they were a brilliant minor team, so will hold judgment on that until next year. Only for an exceptional Derry team the same year, we would have had both Ulster and All Ireland titles. Monaghan were the only team to run Derry close that year, Derry beat other teams well.
One particular poster seems infatuated with the U20 B tournament this year, its the only topic that person posts about, which is a bit weird if you ask me. Westmeant v Leitrim in the other U20 B semi final this evening and not a word on either county forum about it, which says a lot.
If U20s do win the All Ireland, fantastic.! any All Ireland title achieved at any level is a great achievement and deserves recognition but we all agree that Monaghan should be competing for A titles. However, the B tournament certainly gives fringe players the benefit of extra games at inter county level and that is good thing and definitely brings them on.

So, on to the Louth game, I hear that the game now could be in Breffni but GAA have confirmed nothing yet.
If it is, this game will be a full house and should be a great atmosphere.
What's the updates on Monaghan's injuries, will Lavelle be starting for this game ? what's the news on young Hamill ? I see Bobby McCaul is out for the year."
Monaghan is the 28th (out of 32) county in Ireland by population. Therefore we should probably be in the Tailteann Cup and U20 'B' AI.

I don't remember the minor football team of 2022 being a vintage year but like you say there will be expectation that next year the team will have a tilt at Ulster and the AI.

Also I've heard from some recently graduated U20's that except for the Tyrone coach the U20 set up is pretty average.

The Monaghan group are pretty street wise so doubt playing in newbridge will bother them that much. It's more a pain for supporters. I'd thought athletic grounds suited both counties better.

In fairness Parnell Park was the optimum choice but it's out of commission due to the surface being vandalised.
Newbridge was the closest viable option.

And rightly so. It was a national title after all

Newbridge for this game.Really easy to get to for both sets of supporters alright.Newry would be ideal and even parts of louth are ten minutes drive away and dundalk a full fifteen minutes with parts of monaghan about twenty minutes away.Newry is an equally good ground to newbridge ,maybe even better capacity but bringing a large group of supporters along the same road and down the m50?? Maybe they dont want people attending.

Louth declined Newry for a Leinster venue?

With down playing louth there perhaps they blocked it or louth didn't want monaghan playing in an ulster venue

Louth had the choice and it was never going to be an Ulster venue. Newbridge is the closest in Leinster available.

Niall McDonnell

Donal McKenny Dermot Campbell Daire Nally
Andrew Woods Micheal Bannigan Jack McCarron

Craig Lennon Peter Lynch Conal McKeever
Ryan McAnespie Dessie Ward Stephen O'Hanlon

Tommy Durnin Bevan Duffy
Gavin McPhilips Gary Mohan

Andy McDonnell Sam Mulroy Conor Grimes
Conor McCarthy Kieran Duffy Ryan O'Toole

Ryan Burns Kieran Downey Kieran McArdle
Ryan Wylie Killian Lavelle Dylan Byrne

Rory Beggan

Some interesting one-on-one duels in prospect, whatever the venue. Lavelle and Louis Kelly available would be huge for Monaghan. Ryan Burns a big threat from play even though all the talk is justifiably on Sam Mulroy. McAnespie for Lennon, even though he wasn't at full tilt v Donegal.

Id fully expect Kieran Kiki Kennan to start for Louth. He came on in the Leinster final early second half and was excellent.

He has been out since February injured and has been one of our best players the last year or 2

Will be interesting to see who he starts instead of, I'd say McArdle but Brennan really likes young McArdle

Keenan did very well as a sub alright, and was instrumental in getting Louth over the line. Expect maybe Bevan Duffy to drop out as a reserve for midfield area?
