Replying To farneygael3:  "How many of Blayney are on the county squad out of interest and how does their club exploits transfer to the team i.e is the county hurling team competitive as I know they are playing in the lowest division in league and championship after relegation in both last year."
Yes the county team had a very poor year, alot of retirements and players dropping off after the lory Meagher win in 23. I'm not sure if they will bounce back in 25 unless they get a good strong panel together. Club hurling is very poor in the county, Blayney keep it alive by setting standards and developing good structures. Yesterdays win was probably years of hard work. They have 3 ulster junior titles in the past 12 years, almost winning an all Ireland in 2019,would have been a remarkable achievement in monaghan gaa. Inniskeen took a very heavy beating yesterday while most other clubs although they have teams, they ain't up to much. Monaghan GAA need to do more imo to develop the small ball game. But if the interest isnt there, what can you do.

Massive credit to Castleblayney. For all the stick we give them on here, the deserve huge credit for keeping hurling alive in the county. I really do feel sorry for them - There is no competition in Monaghan to properly prepare them for the Ulster competition (surely they'd find 15 hurlers across Tydavnet, Scotstown, Ballinode and Knocktallon? Hell, they could even see if Currin have any).
What is also quite staggering, is that you'll nearly find more people in Castleblayney who begrudge the hurlers rather than people that support them.

Ye it had been said the standard is at its worst ever and no other team able to catch inniskeen who were 20+ point losers in co final to blayney does not paint a good picture. 32 point losers yesterday to Derry junior champions. Have Monaghan development squads/minor teams? I have said before should it follow what Cavan louth and Fermanagh did and park the senior team for a few years to work on the underage. A quick google says Fermanagh and Cavan are playing in higher competitions than Monaghan. The county's took a backlash for doing this but it has served in the long run?

That last point is true. Look at the bizzare situation they had with playing facilties for years in Blayney. They are a credit for what they have achieved and how they do it.

Monaghan website has Carrickmacross taking inniskeen to extra time in the championship semi final and Blayney beating harps by 36 points. If Blayney left the monaghan championship it would be competitive enough

Your last point makes zero sense considering a lot of the hurling team are dual players that also play for the faughs. The narrative that Blayney don't support the hurlers is laughable

I dont think the poster is wrong. The hurlers basically couldn't use St Mary's facilties for a long time for training etc. Put it this way, the football commitee made it orcward for the hurlers. But I suppose they are seperate clubs with seperate commitees. I have often heard rumours that the footballers didn't back the dual player over the years but could be wrong on that.

The United Parishes won the double today whilst resting the 2 threemile house lads and McCurrin. 5 changes to the team from last weekend this is very impressive

Lot of lingering about this. I don't think there's any smoke without fire.

I saw that a poor reflection on both clubs. 2018 they played a senior league final.

Agree, conditions not great but carrick were very poor, traugh better without being great ,
Truagh lost their no 6 after about 2 mins in , could have thrown them but were worthy 6 point Victours,
Carrick and blaney now down 2 years, the longer it goes on , the harder it gets

Was the result a big surprise, that's why there's no talk about it, everyone knows Carrick are a soft touch when it comes to the business end of the year, showed it last year against Killanny and earlier in the year in the championship semi against Truagh. Only surprise is that it was only 6 points.
