Replying To TheHunter:  "Apart from the championship games we played against Dublin in the last decade, I can't remember us being written off to this extent since the 2013 Ulster final. I am working from home today and have done the rounds of the various GAA podcasts. Some of them are barely discussing this match save a one minute conversation saying we have no hope. The only pundit I heard giving us a prayer is Wooly Parkinson. His take on it is that Galway are trying to play a more controlled measured attacking build up and as a result don't blow teams away, which might leave Monaghan in the game and if it gets into a street fight in the last few minutes he fancies us.

If you look at Galways's championship record this year he does have a point. Granted they had injuries in these games, but they left it very late against Sligo, Westmeath and Mayo to get the job done, plus they let Armagh back into it last week. So while we are up against it, there is hope."
On the button. Pretty accurate. And a point not lost down here is ye have shooters from distance that can hurt teams.

A lot of supporters have lost faith in Joyce and the way we are playing so I would certainly think Monaghan have a good chance.

Very valid point. I can't remember a game since then and even in 2013 we were not being written off as much as we were in an ulster final on merit. This seems different. If Monaghan were to win today it would be there with one of the biggest coups in Monaghan gaa past. We just need to be in the game with 10 minutes left.. I just hope we make a game of it. The more I seen everyone writing us off the more hope I get.....

Steady on Tom, don't let the heat get to you.
This will be very comfortable for Galway, a chance to get minutes into some of their returning players.

I honestly think we've a great chance today, its still a relatively strong Monaghan team named.. Galway needed a last minute goal to beat a div 4 team and only beat a div 3 team by 4pts so there not exactly setting the world alight either and only for deerys injuries and man sent off Galway would have been beaten… yes there a physical side but if we can keep the pitch wide and keep the ball moving at pace we have a great chance….need a huge game from the currin man who can't be bringing the pace off the game to a snails pace….

Will it? Galway back out this weekend after a very tough game against Armagh that resulted in a draw when they should have won it. Monaghan out after getting their 1st win since January with hopefully a hunger for more Championship games. Think the Ulster teams will be heading West with more pep in their step!

What a shocking piece of refereeing .. 3 min injury time ?

Good opportunity missed (referee had a shocker) I'm glad we went down fighting but Galway probably deserved the win overall. Tough game, good expierence for the newcomers but overall a flat year with plenty of rebuilding ahead.

Wasn't his only shocking call

The game was there for Monaghan to win so a disappointing result. That bit of inexperience showed which is always punished at this level and that cost them. Irwin doesn't need to make rash tackles, his pace gets to the right place quickly so no need to dive in. In a tight game that's the difference. That said the referee gave a lot of soft frees to Galway and missed the block/foul on Lavelle before Comer's point. Poor display from him and the umpires.

Monaghan shouldn't have taken off Mohan, I know he was close to a second yellow but it handed the midfield to Galway. Physical presence and midfield domination is key against the better teams at the business end of the championship. Sometimes you have to hold your nerve. If it wasn't McManus coming on I don't think the change would have been made. McBennet was good again. He is a major plus.

Losing McAnespie was a big blow, his presence would have made a difference in the second half when Galway upped the pace. It felt a bit like they were running out of bodies. No Ward or O'Connell or Duffy is too much experience to miss out on.

Overall though the experience will stand to the players. Hopefully this will bring them on and all players will be available again next year bar maybe McManus. Karl Gallagher would have been expected to have been a big part of Monaghan this year, so hopefully none of the "newer" players will depart.

Next year feels a long way away but it will be interesting. If McManus is not there it'll be strange but he gave a huge amount to Monaghan football and has laid the platform and set the standard for the newer players to achieve. If he goes I hope he enjoys his retirement. I think he's probably the best Monaghan player I've seen, certainly the best forward, even better than Nudie or Ray McCarron, which is saying something.

Why can't Monaghan go at a team. Even with a couple of minutes left they didn't seem to know how to get away from their defensive rubbish. It is so boring to watch and getting you nowhere. Galway got sucked in to this rubbish but at least they got over the line with more class in their attack

Was waiting for a sour comment from a weaker county, I was wondering which one it would come from first. I'd actually thought Kildare or Leitrim would be first.

This is top level football, that's how it's played these days.

We have an awful inability to close out games down the stretch. The list is endless.

nothing to do with weaker counties. As far as I'm concerned, Monaghan are below a weak county with absolute zero ambition in a game to go and take it on. Delighted to be a weaker county if we have to endure that crap

You'll be happy so, the Tailteann Cup is a great competition. All the teams want to be in it.

And if you knew anything about football you'd know that Galway didn't get sucked into anything. They were the favourites, at home and and fancy themselves, it's up to them to set the pace.

Here's a tip for the future - you don't have to watch, you just turn it off or don't go.

its when there is 5 minutes left and you stick with defensive rubbish when you need a few scores makes you impossible to watch. We look forward to welcoming you to the TC

Still scratching my head as to why Mohan was taken off

Alot of positives and pride restored. Serious stepping stone for a rebuild. Youngest side statistically in the championship i believe. Just need to invest into S&C and study why there was so many injuries.
