Team announced for Sunday. Hopefully can get a win and stop the rot and have a promising campaign. Good to see Sam Smyth get a start and a decent bench there too Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 250 - 09/05/2025 10:09:54 2607761 Link 0 |
Hopefully we can with Kildare and Offaly winning yesterday its going to be a very competitive competition this . Bench is key and great to see some under 20s on the bench today . Young Baker a excellent prospect this is the perfect opportunity for these young lads and build for the future. Luke is probably the best player on show in this competition and hopefully we are in with a real chance of winning another Tailteann cup

Luke certainly made a case for your statement, he scored approx 2-13, Stephen Smith, Eoghan McCabe, Joe Moran, Kevin O' Sullivan also excelled plus the usual consistency from Sam Mc and Ronan W, all without Ray Connellan, Brian Guerin and Fionn O' Hara, team looked extremely fit and focused, Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2155 - 11/05/2025 16:01:38 2608447 Link 0 |
What sort of injury did Ronan Wallace get ? Jack_Sparrow (Westmeath) - Posts: 1038 - 11/05/2025 19:56:36 2608545 Link 0 |
Looked like he pulled the hammer. Hopefully not that bad

The performance today would have seen us beat Louth and Meath. lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 132 - 11/05/2025 22:21:21 2608611 Link 0 |
Relax kid… Westmeath left at least 4 goals behind today. I thought Sam Smyth had a brilliant debut. Forde did well when he came on also and he is made for summer football. O'Sullivan was fantastic throughout. Hopefully Wallace's injury isn't bad. We badly need to get Senan Baker back to take some pressure of Luke. Still encouraging to win without Connellan, Lynam, Guerin and O'Hara. Still going to be very hard to win the Tailteann as Kildare will be favourites but Westmeath shouldn't be too far off. Does anyone know if Conor Dillon is injured? Is there any chance of Drumm being back this summer for Westmeath? Matthew (None) - Posts: 1078 - 12/05/2025 00:42:32 2608639 Link 0 |
Would you reckon Luke would score 1:17 against either Meath or Louth today in croke park which is nearly 4000 sq meters larger than Mullingar in all fairness

Well capable of winning Tailteann and they're definitely focused on that, doubt there's a fitter team in the competition and as previous poster said we have lads well suited to summer football. our forwards especially, the new rules suit the players we have in terms of pace and mobility in the middle third, Sam Mc, Wallace, O' Sullivan, Connellan, Harte, Forde, good to see Sam Smyth involved, very steady defender, Conor Dillon suffered ACL in Kildare game, huge loss to club and county, if we have everyone available we should fear no side. 4,000 sq meters? That's definitely not correct. If you put the goals on the 21m lines at Croke Park, it still wouldn't take 4,000 sq metres off the overall size. Cusack Park certainly one of the smallest intercounty pitches, but the 2 point arc is the same distance from the goal , no matter how big or small the pitch is. jamsie (Westmeath) - Posts: 472 - 12/05/2025 10:32:09 2608711 Link 0 |
He might not score 1-17 .Mulroy scored 1-7 he's a shoe in for an all star but for me Luke is better.

Impressive display against Antrim. Was o'hara injured ? If we have a full contingent we have a very good chance of winning the competition. Lakecounty94 (Westmeath) - Posts: 80 - 12/05/2025 12:25:42 2608770 Link 0 |
4000sq meters? What you smokin man? Thats 63m x 63m. Croke park is not that amount bigger than Cusack park. Yes it is one of the shorter and narrower pitches but not by 4000sq meters. 400sq meters perhaps??

House draw pushed out by a month anyone buy ticket lately? How many sold now? Jarlath Brurns after popping up on my Facebook feed pushing the Waterford one. Advertisement very low key at the moment Chops (Westmeath) - Posts: 812 - 13/05/2025 11:55:46 2609157 Link 0 |
In fairness I'm seeing it a lot more lately. Had heard it picked up a bit but not sure how much

I see County Board have accepted the draw is not going to plan - lots of debate and blame at recent meeting as reported in papers. 15k was the target number of ticket sales - I wonder what is needed to break even ? BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1185 - 14/05/2025 13:23:46 2609547 Link 0 |
how much land did the county buy and how much did they pay for it for centre of excellence anyone know? PowellJohn3 (Westmeath) - Posts: 80 - 14/05/2025 15:29:08 2609602 Link 0 |
I have to agree with most of what you have said but I think the clubs and supporters are stepping up and have stepped up in an attempt to buy and sell tickets, I just don't think that the gaa population in Westmeath is big enough to put the blame on them for this fundraiser. Like many have stated previously Roscommon win a house draw got more entries from outside the county than within! I don't think that is happening with ours as the only place I have seen advertised is Westmeath social media pages and through clubs, so it's not reaching the audience it needs to

There are several reasons why public support for the draw has been lacking: Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 548 - 14/05/2025 15:38:28 2609605 Link 0 |
It's a good question, a lot of talk by people but don't see it translating into actions or support. We are significantly outnumbered at virtually every home game in both codes at any grade, last Sunday was an exception with Antrim not travelling in numbers but Antrim support definitely outnumbered what we'd have brought to Corrigan Park. People seem to find excuses or complaints, posters here complain that COE should have been built years ago but that's a pointless argument. The coordinators of various county teams like Annette Bennett, Marius Gavin, Derek Smyth and others encounter huge difficulties in sourcing pitches for training, clubs have ladies and men's teams to cater for and underage so it's understandable but a centre for our county teams is a must to progress and yet support levels are low. No one can argue €100 is steep today, €2 a week over a year, Louth and others benefitting from theirs. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2155 - 14/05/2025 15:48:21 2609609 Link 0 |
