Replying To Bluelake:  "Very surprised if Johnny Murray is gone, couldn't have been any closer. Thought he did an excellent job."
Johnny Murray has taken the downs from not winning a game under lar wall in 2023 to been 15 seconds away from winning championship in 2024. Absolute madness if he is not managing this team in 2024 is it not?

I didn't make it to Navan at the weekend but I will be there on Tuesday night for no doubt a sell out fixture. If there is the same atmosphere as there was for the Milltown vs Garrycastle final it will be a huge night in Lakepoint Park. Hoping Lomans can put in another dominant performance, and it's important that they do, before the toughest test comes in the form of Ardee most likely in the semi final.

Replying To Claretandblue:  "Why the snide comment? Lots of clubs benefit from players transferring in to their area, town clubs benefit more than most but it's not as if Tyrrellspass had an influx of players. They were minus home grown talents in the Glennons, Dean McNicholas, Stephen Quinn and Ger Egan most of the year."
Don't take everything so serious on here. The Glennon's were classy footballers in their day, and have given so much to the Tyrrellspass jersey. It's unfortunate how the lads were both put out of the picture all the while 2 new players got a look in.

Replying To Highball_Lowball:  "You don't have a clue what you are talking about again. I fully expect LG to do the best by their full panel in the shield final. There's a reason why they are retaining so many players at this key age, do you think their D6 players will return next year if they use their stronger players ahead of them in the shield final? Their D6 team have lost a lot of their group games, but improved against Millmore in the last game. If they beat Kilbeggan in the final it will be from hard work put in, not parachuting players in from the first team.

Unfortunately the knock on of this years debacle wont be felt until next year when teams decide not to enter a second team and struggle with a single team with 15+ subs. If that happens, and i suspect it will it will be as a direct result of the requirement to play both games at the same time. Surely there is a better way to handle this issue.

It will be interesting to see how M/Ts first team get on against Athlones second team................"
Super result for Lilliputs "second" team in Shield final.... some turn around from loosing all year. What is the magic formula I wonder.... I wouldn't know because I don't have a clue as you pointed out so many times!!
Again... shame on them for conceding a Div6 championship semi final and leaving 15 kids on the sideline. Did these 15 start last night?????????? I doubt it!

Not sure what your agenda is or what you have against Lilliput Gaels. As you said you were not at the game! As with a lot of your previous posts, you are making comments on things you haven't a clue about.
The team last night consisted of the all players who supported their teammates from the sideline in the Div1 final.

Best of luck this evening against Athlones first team!

The downs players and committie putting themselves under pressure to deliver a championship 2025 with this carry on. Murray got them to a County final 2024 narrowly beaten by strong favourites St Lomans. He also got the Downs ladies to their first senior final in history of the club year before 2023. Hidden agenda maybe??

Twas the div 6 players last night. Due to the rules they can't play div1 players and if they brought up div6 panellists to div 1 they would be cup tied. A great result for those young lads whose hard work and efforts all year have something to show for it.
Rather than sitting at home due to a rule that'll force young lads away from the game. A win is a win. No doubt the town clubs will come hoovering as they've done in the past enquiring about the best players.
The cat among the pigeons would be the three clubs who make up the gaels go all in at senior level as well. Probably never happen but with shandonagh beside them they'll start drawing players away soon, as you know mammies and daddies like winning teams.
You'll have lomans, shamrocks, downs and shandonagh as the town teams and they'll get the vast amount of young lads. Last nights result is a great lift for lilliput and all the people who put in Trojan efforts to keep underage on the go for the 3 clubs concerned.
So your sneering young lads playing is no good to anyone at least these kids will play on for another couple of years and beyond rather than 15 and 5 subs on the div1 team. Lilliputs panel for the u14s is the exception rather than the rule with numbers at underage grades. The town teams can probably field 4 teams and play at the same time so lay off sneering 14 yr old young lads playing a div6 final.

You obviously don't have a clue re the real situation there. Yes the Glennons were excellent club players for Tyrrellspass but your snide comment still isn't relevant

It was a super year for this panel alright. All players started the year with meaningful games to look forward to, games where they could compete at their own level (apart from the MT game obviously). As the shield was handed over last night, the county board official quite rightly commented that the real measure of success is whether or not the players involved this year return to play our games next year, and the year after that. Each and every decision made by LPG management was made with this goal in mind.

Last nights game was played with as much passion and enthusiasm as the Div. 1 game the previous week and the sizeable crowd from LPG and Kilbeggan Shamrocks were treated to a good competitive game under lights. The improvement in a lot of the players was significant and that's what its all about.

Every player who was on the side-line for the Div 1 game started and remained on the pitch for the entirety of the game and can be rightly proud of their achievements throughout the year. As predicted, the mentors did right by the panel so well done to them, they will bear the fruit of these descisions in years to come hopefully. I don't know what your problem is with LPG? They really have been exceptional in how they have handled their difficult squad numbers (30+), every player came out the other side of the year with smiles on their faces and great memories of their year.

Also, fair play to the Kilbeggan Shamrocks Mentors and Team. They brought a sizeable panel in the end and their efforts to field and play good football must be commended. They also field on their own without an amalgamation, which is not easy in the current climate of declining numbers in rural clubs.

Well done to Garycastle today. Really closed out the game well and have a nice panel to work with.

Replying To Temple56:  "Athlone sticking with Eoin Jordan - they believe Flanagan cup is on their way in 2025. Players already back training in the gym together.
Pat Flanagan staying in Caulry
Moate surely looking for a new manager after their awful year?
Corcoran to Tang not confirmed
Garrycastle still in Leinster probably hopeful management team will stay on.
No news on Castledaly, Milltownpass or Rosemount.
Tubberclair need a change and should to go for an outside manager. They have the best footballing squad going into next years Intermediate championship.
Milltown should look to change management as well. Loughlin's defensive football will only get them so far. Some young great footballers but playing 15 behind the ball will never win them a Intermediate championship.
Lomans and T Pass to stick with same management teams."
Shamrocks be looking to continue good progress with burke. Great to see clubs with home grown manager from inside the clubs. Money clubs are paying these days is crazy

Under 20 competition turning into a farce again, so many walkovers and teams pulling out. I was talking to a young lad yesterday who said his team weren't able to field this morning and would be giving a walkover, then before they notified the county board the opposition got in first and said they wouldn't be travelling and gave the walkover. Some joke, similar to the junior b competition it's a case of who blinks first. This should be a hugely important grade for development of players between underage and adult, however it's being ran at a time of year where it makes it no more than an afterthought of a secondary competition… no wonder there's such a drop off of players
