You clearly don't understand how Athlone ended up in Div5. Also... clueless statements! Explain how it happened so.... I await your hypothesis!

My club receives a list of named players in every competition at the outset of the year, all clubs receive those lists presumably, clubs can object if they feel the list is not right, most clubs scrutinise the names lists in their own divisions, to suggest that Killucan named 4/5 imaginary players is beyond belief, there's no chance of a club doing that or getting away with it.

I'm suggesting nothing. The fact you seem to ignore is 4 players STARTED both divisions. I don't have the answer to that! And those 4 are not on the named 15. Maybe 4 or 5 of their first team emigrated since last February. ... you figure it out.... If they declared enough for 2 teams at the start of 2024... barring emigration... 4 or 5 young lads are not getting a look in at the 2nd team. It's simple maths... use your fingers if your having trouble.....! LoughLeneKing (Westmeath) - Posts: 22 - 03/11/2024 15:08:44 2578120 Link 0 |
Can't get over how bad Dunshaughlin were today. They were actually worse than Kill Oe last year Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 166 - 03/11/2024 15:28:09 2578127 Link 1 |
I don't know anything about either team, but could there be a scenario where they named the oldest 15 or who they thought were the strongest, and then some good younger lads who weren't named stepped up to the mark and are deserving of their spots on both teams? Its happened in senior clubs where named players weren't at much and got regraded and ended up playing junior for the second team

Meath football is embarrassing... I wouldn't even take that as a good result! Move on, bigger tests ahead! eamo01 (Westmeath) - Posts: 6 - 03/11/2024 15:50:43 2578137 Link 1 |
Dunshaughlin won their first senior title in 22 years this year. Compare that to St Loman's, 10 county finals in a row and extensive experience playing in Leinster but still thought Dunshaughlin would pose a bigger challenge despite the deplorable record of the Meath senior champions in Leinster. Dunshaughlin were the last club from Meath to win a Leinster senior club. Our county champions have always competed well in Leinster. Four different clubs from our county have made the final since a Meath club last have. As well I'd say a bigger pitch in Navan would suit St Loman's forwards down to the ground. Cusack is a dump.

Sensible response Tailteann but don't expect LLK to accept such a logical and rational explanation.

They are first time champions. They've probably been flat out celebrating, with little interest in Leinster. Outside of Dublin clubs you don't win a Leinster unless you are a serial winner of your own championship. New county championship winners can be immediately discounted as contenders.

I see your theory re the lower age grades being a consolation prize for clubs with two teams held up well in the division 5 final.

Dunshauglin are far from first time winners they won Leinster previously also so to claim they've little interest because there first time county winners is a poor shoot , a good performance and victory from st lomans today

That group of players are first time winners. Well aware of their history. Most of their players will not remember that Leinster win. If they win Meath a couple more times soon x then they might put in a decent Leinster challenge.

The downs in 2020 if that's the case in your first time winners logic,I take it they were a couple of championship wins too early for putting in a decent Leinster challenge ? What a pathetic statement I'm sure every dunshauglin player mentor and fan were going there to win today …. In the end st lomans performed well and had a good win but don't let your hatred for st lomans stand in your way …. Best of luck to both Garrycastle and st lomans after their victories in Leinster and hopefully continue to represent our county all the way in both grades

No.... I do understand that reasoning. What would be concerning is that means some lads named in the first 15 haven't got any football.... they can't play div5... and now deemed not good enough for Div2. Its a no win situation. The simple solution is.... if you have 30 plus players.... don't name 15.... keep the league format the same... both teams play at same time....then... when it comes to championship.... start higher division the evening before lower... any lad that plays the higher division can't play the lower division for the duration of championship.. Even if it means bringing the lower tier back to 13 a side... Same as adult football. In the exceptional circumstance that a team are stuck for numbers in maybe one game due to holidays etc.... then the CB could allow lads to step up for 1 game without making them not eligible for div5. That would mean teams from the same club wouldn't have to play at the same time... same evening etc. But come on lads.... a good player playing midfield on a div2 team.... then he starts midfield on a div5 team.... please. I don't blame the clubs ultimately.... as the system allows it. LoughLeneKing (Westmeath) - Posts: 22 - 03/11/2024 19:45:48 2578203 Link 0 |
Often seen first time winners go out and play excellently. Lomans were good but Dunshaughlin were awful. Probably the worst team Lomans have ever played in Leinster. Castletown will be a much tougher test but looks as though it'll be in Lakepoint Park on Tuesday week

Why is Lomans Leinster QF fixed for a Tuesday night ? It's down on the Leinster website for 7:30 on the 12th of November Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 504 - 03/11/2024 22:05:44 2578235 Link 0 |
Todays performance was the best Ive seen out of St Lomans in years. Dunshaughlin had beat all top teams in Meath ( Summerhill, Ratoath, Dunboyne and Wolfe Tones) to win county title so this was the best Meath had to offer. Meath men behind me couldnt believe how Dunshaughlin were torn apart. Really impressed with Jack ODonoghue. Hes grown in stature and definitely worth a look for the county. The Mc Cartans as usual were excellent and Fola caused lots of damage. It will take a very good team to stop Lomans. Definitely have a right good chance at winning Leinster title with Kilmacud out of the picture. A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 239 - 03/11/2024 22:20:15 2578238 Link 0 |
Castletown have hurlers playing for ST Martins. Game most likely in Lakepoint Park

Does Jack Donoghue not play with Garrycastle?
