Nobody mentioning Anthony Cunningham. I think he would be a very good appointment. He has history within the club scene in Westmeath, close ties to the county working in TUS, a very good managerial CV across both codes at both club and inter county. With coaches like Damien Gavin and Peter Tormey who was a coach with him at Roscommon and both of their familiarity with underage setup in Westmeath over the last number of years I think it could be a very attainable ticket.

I heard he was approached and considered the job but due to commitments to St Brigids he declined. He would have been a great appointment

Responding logically to your message warrants that response?

Kinnegad vs Caulry in moate.
Tang vs Atlone in Cuscak.
Tpass vs Lomans in the downs.
All on the saturday at 5.45
Tang can't play in cusack, Athlone win. Lomans will beat Tpass with ease, meaning Athlone will come second.
This seems to be another blow for kinnegad moate does not suit them, hard to call but unless Kinnegad start to change something this could see them out.

A lot of good discussion here on senior championship, however there are also lots of interesting permutations to how the Intermediate groups may finish up next weekend.. In section B, likely that St. Marys will go through after a much improved performance against Kilbeggan after playing poorly against Multyfarnham. You would imagine they should beat an already relegated Ball. Multy vs Kilbeggan a huge game set to be played in the Park. Interestingly despite Multy having a great year so far, a Kilbeggan win although unlikely would send them crashing out of championship. Nobody gave Kilbeggan a crack of being in the running for a quarter final spot so maybe they could pull of one more big performance.

In Section A Garrycastle likely to go straight to a semi. Milltown vs Rosemount a huge game with winner going straight through to semi. Rosemount having a great year and were very good against Milltownpass despite key players like Mccormack, Maxwell etc missing. I think they might cause Milltown a lot of problems. Tubberclair vs Garrycastle also huge as Tubberclair must win to achieve a quarter final spot (you would imagine Milltownpass should beat Castledaly). I think Tubberclair will put in a big performance here and beat Garrycastle as Garrycastle already through and may take their foot of the gas for this game. I still think there will be a suprise team that may reach the final in this championship and wont be a two horse race between Milltown and Garrycastle that many have opted it may be.

This would be a good appointment. Manager with lots of inter county experience and top clubs. Did great with garrycastle and doing well with st brigids now. Knows Westmeath well as mintyfresh says.

Doubt it will be a two horse race. I'd say Garrycastle will walk the competition they are unbeaten and havnt even got out of 1st gear. Eoin Monaghan now back from travels. James Dolan missing the last day. They have some quality forwards. Massive experience defensively will keep opposition forward lines quiet.

JC will be home in November. Liam McHale on board as performance coach.

Anthony Cunningham would be a very good catch indeed. Now that you mention Anthony and Peter Tormey, Noel Dunning was another one of his selectors in Roscommon. Noel is from Coosan and won u20 Connacht as Roscommon manager this year but has just stepped down. Has he a bigger fish to fry in his home county.

Possibly but the results so far don't back up your predict ion to the extent you think. Two point winners over Milltownpass, draw with Milltown, likes of Tom O' Halloran and Alex Gardiner are huge losses still, experienced defence but lots of lads with extra mileage, the McCallons have been there for long spells, favourites alright but no guarantees in a competitive championship.

Justin Barrett and John Gaffey also huge losses add them 4 players to any team
would be challanging for a Senior C/Ship

So Lar Wall one of the favourites for the Meath job along with Robbie Brennan. Its a bit concerning that there are no such headlines in regard to our manager position. I cant see Brennan leaving Crokes. Why would he when he is already managing a team at such a high standard. I would imagine he would be a shoe in if Dessie Farrell were to move on.

Could it be that Westmeath are moving obstacles which are hindering the re-appointment of Jack Cooney? I don't see any other candidate in Westmeath who would be up to the job. I know his fingerprints are on Kinnegad's style of play too but he is proven in the County job.

Careful now, we only play attacking football in Westmeath not defensive rubbish. Down with that sort of thing. I heard from a few lads that have their ear to the ground in Cusack that Jack wont be next manager.

Realistically the senior footballers are a 4/5 years rebuilding project. An outside manager would only be driven by short term goals and is therefore not the right option for Westmeath.

Nobody has a better understanding of the young footballers in the county than Damien Gavin. Give him a strong background team and time.
