Greg McEneaney, another that might step up?

Apologies. I must run my posts past you in the future. He was approached by the football management AFTER he stated that he was looking forward to playing under Ó Ceallacháin. I will interpret that as will others as we see fit. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3148 - 15/11/2024 10:52:25 2579699 Link 0 |
Think Greg is a great little man marker. Agree with Fionn as well, think Clancey is the real deal. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4465 - 15/11/2024 11:08:55 2579707 Link 1 |
Apologies if I hit a nerve, never my intention to suggest that you or anyone else cannot express their opinion on this forum, sure that's the very purpose of the forum. But of course I too can have an opinion and I don't have to agree with you. I can understand the disappointment of those invested in Dublin hurling with the news of EOD's move to the footballers. My only issue is with the use of the word poached which has connotations of underhandedness, stealth and illegality. Personally I have no problem taking EOD's statement at face value "that he always had an ambition to give county football a shot and now at 28 the clock was ticking" and also O' Ceallacháin's saying that he was already aware that the player had an ambition to play with the Dublin footballers. Intercounty football and hurling requires full personal commitment from a player and I don't believe either Farrell or O'Ceallacháin would be interested in a player who needed inducing or cajoling to come on board. I know you don't agree and that's fair enough, no bother. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 795 - 15/11/2024 13:20:08 2579733 Link 0 |
Didn't mean to be abrasive! No inside line bit do know O'Donnell was very much up for new regime and optimistic too. He said as much too in commentary i think on tv game? Didn't see it myself. Anyway, footballers do have habit of this but his choice at end of day and wish and think he will do well. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3148 - 16/11/2024 22:08:31 2579914 Link 0 |
Comfortable enough for Na Fianna in the end. Not sure of the wisdom of their style on a sticky pitch but it worked out well enough and bit of class told. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3148 - 18/11/2024 12:18:42 2580134 Link 0 |
It seems to me that Dublin football has been the biggest obstacle to the development and success of Dublin hurling for many a year.

Indeed. After coming within a few minutes of beating Tipp in 1961 and when Heffernan basically took over the football he tacitly barred Vinnies players from playing county hurling. Des Foley was one of few who dissented. Dublin won football in 1963. Not been back in hurling final since. There you go.... BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3148 - 18/11/2024 16:33:52 2580177 Link 1 |
So that's Fenton gone now too after McCarthy's recent announcement. There are rumours of a few more to follow still. Jack Mc, John Small and Mannion I've heard anyway. Fenton probably the most indispensable one of the lot though and pretty irreplaceable and severely dents our 2025 aspirations. TrueBlue35 (Dublin) - Posts: 213 - 19/11/2024 06:35:51 2580236 Link 1 |
Fenton calling it a day with Dublin.. exactly as I predicted at the beginning of September… A great player and a huge loss to Dublin.. irreplaceable..! ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3031 - 19/11/2024 07:18:58 2580239 Link 0 |
That's a huge blow. A lean period looms for the big ballers I think. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3148 - 19/11/2024 09:03:37 2580247 Link 1 |
Fenton the most important player of the Jim Gavin era. Just a class act year on year. Probably a couple more still to follow. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8162 - 19/11/2024 09:20:04 2580250 Link 1 |
WOW - Fento retires at only 31. Still in his prime. Irreplaceable tbh. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3987 - 19/11/2024 09:51:36 2580256 Link 0 |
Dubs dont have a hope in 2025 based on who will be missing. I am hearing another household name could follow suit.... Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3987 - 19/11/2024 09:55:38 2580257 Link 0 |
Fenton ........What a player. The only one I can remember in the same class was Jack O'Se (the 80's are my earliest memory!!!). Congrats on a great career. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1892 - 19/11/2024 10:53:01 2580270 Link 0 |

He's a magnificent footballer and a wonderful ambassador for the game. Alongside Jacko he is the best I have ever seen. Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6144 - 19/11/2024 10:58:14 2580273 Link 0 |
What a player! An absolute powerhouse of a midfielder with boundless energy. He's young at 31 to be leaving the IC game. Congrats on all his achievements in the game. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 974 - 19/11/2024 10:58:45 2580274 Link 0 |
