Replying To avonali:  "Congrats to Tyrone. The better team won. Dublin have not yet learned to adapt to the new rules. The failure of our forwards to take on two pointers is shocking. OUr bench is very poor by comparison."
Ooops - Forgot to mention - some very strange 1 sided calls by the ref today, but I wont dwell on it.
Neutrals around me from Monaghan and Donegal thought the same.
But sure it is what it is.

Thanks again Dessie for years of dedication.

Looking forward to the Dublin Hurlers next weekend now.
Hopefully we put it up to the formidable Rebels.
Cant see Chris getting the suspension overturned. Pity...

Those were the days my friend, but they're over now. And that's ok.

What a blast we've had. We will be back again. Don't know when, but the ride was a joy.

Thanks Dessie. Thanks to all the lads who represented us. It really was a golden generation but time has caught up with us. We can't complain. It was coming a long time ago in fairness.

Dessie Farrell is a great Gael. An absolutely superb player who also won 2 All Irelands as a manager. He owes no-one anything. Also a lovely guy and absolute gentleman. He walks from the field with total dignity, respect and with his head held very high. Dublin will go away, lick their wounds, reorganise and come back as they always do with me calling them all the effers of the day as usual and we wouldn't have it any other way. Won't be long before the Jacks are challenging again.

Replying To CiarraiMick:  "Commiseration today and the best of luck to Dessie in the future.

Dessie took on the unenviable task of managing the Dubs after the golden years.

Dessie managed to lead his beloved Dubs to two All Irelands aswell as success as under 21 and minor manager.

A great player and a great manager but most of all a man that was gracious in victory and always a gentleman in defeat.
Enjoy your break Dessie."
As is usual from you, a classic tribute to a true Gael in Dessie, CiarraiMick. I think few would find fault with your thoughts on Dessie. I enjoy all your contributions on whatever topic when I come across them.

I don't think Dessie has been great for Dublin… He won his first All Ireland on the coattails of Jim Gavin.. I firmly believe that Dublin team would have won that year without a manager… In 2023 Dublin really won because David Clifford laced up his boots on his wrong feet… There were several positional problems Dublin had especially in defence that Dessie never addressed in his time and his reliance on over the hill players really came back to bite.. The sight of Con O Callaghan coming on yesterday on one leg was testament to where Dublin were at… no subs.. Just look at the replacements Tyrone had and the impact they made…This downwards slip for Dublin can be traced back a long way .. the sight of Bernard Brogan shouting into Jim Gavins face to get on near the end of the Kerry replay for 5 in a row made up Jim Gavins mind to vacate and from then on the rot set in… In the last 5 years Dublin despite their All Ireland in 2023 have been anything but convincing in my opinion and a lot of this has been down to weak management….

I watched the highlights and after match interview late last night - bloody hell, apparently we dont have the players in the squad who can shoot 2 pointers....!!! Seriously.????
If ever there was an admission that the Dubs were underprepared for the new rules and the 2 point rule in particular, then this was it.
I will go easy on the outgoing management team, out of courtesy and respect to them, but wtf..!!!

Anyway, new backroom team in place soon. If we go for a Dublin coach, then look no further than the man who started our renaissance back in 2010....!

In fairness yesterday it wasn't just the ability to kick 2pters but simple 1pters was a problem. The defensive strategy was a shambles as well, if scoring two pointers is something teams work on then there must be a defensive strategy against it. With the strategy of putting the arm up to slow down the ball when on attack and what they did before half time - which got slapped back in their face again, it seems to me as if the management team think they are being very tactical and smart, where the opposite is true. Dublin was always known for having brilliant forwards who if around today would love the s[pace they would now have, other than Con, its a poor pick these days. The management never prepared themselves for the fact that some of the players would just say enough is enough and really got stuck between keeping the lads that were there before and bringing in new blood. The new management will have to clean house and look to rebuild and aim for a perhaps a payback in about 3yrs

Replying To Fionn:  "Ok last post of tonight....

I know, I and others have suggested Ger Brennan as the next coach of the Dubs, but the more I think of it now, I am not so sure anymore. I think it might be too big of a task for him. Nothing against his achievements with Louth, but in reality, Meath are a better team than Louth, and blew that Leinster final, imo.

If I had to choose Ger or Robbie - I would go for Robbie B.
But he wont be leaving Meath.

So, the big question is, who do we go for next...????
I am gonna throw a real curve ball in here and suggest Austin O'Malley, ex Cuala.
Although if I am in Mayo CB, I would be jumping in there first to get him.

Interesting few months ahead for the Dublin County Board."
Fionn.
I cannot see Dublin apponting an outsider to manage the footballers. You d have Kevin Heffernan turning in his grave.
Although I know things seem gloomy after a loss but the Dubs when the embrace the new rules will still be very strong.
Declan Darcy might be in the mix and who knows who will come to the fore.
Also the batteries will be recharged next year and maybe Fenton might get the appetite back. He is still a yoing man.Regardless best of luck going forward.

Just wanted to wish Dessie well in the future, a class act and true Gael.
It wasn't a great game yesterday, full of mistakes, conditions were bad, so many many frees for touching the ball on the ground, Tyrone had the better composure and done enough to win, both teams can play a lot better than they showed.
Dublin had the chances but the pressure seemed to get to them and they made poor decisions, Tyrone heaped that pressure on though so credit to them.
The Dubs will be back strong next year no doubt.

No one will want job among leading contenders named.

Very little coming through and more retirements certainty.Best club players are often older or even former county lads. That is ominous.

A barren period ahead. Might benefit hurling if sual players start to favour that choice.

It is but high jeopardy. Need to be someone with realistic plan based on talent available.

Can't be external. Has to be someone knows Dublin football root and branch.

Really....????

Meath are clearly a better team than Louth.
Meath have shown their true ability since the Leinster final, as have Louth imo.

I rate this Meath team highly and of course with Robbie at the helm - well he has added a lot to them also.
