Our website has returned to its old football bias. All the underage football results and tables preferably accesibile while we need the Da Vinci code to know what's going on in hurling. Southern Gaels and Raharney men gone of board is there a hurling person left? jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1702 - 05/05/2025 11:44:12 2606814 Link 2 |
I just think vs Dublin they will be needed from the start for their pace and power especially around the midfield area. We will see though, McKeogh might start with the same team and use the two of them off the bench again.

How will seniors do against Down. Danup (Westmeath) - Posts: 73 - 06/05/2025 11:10:10 2607039 Link 0 |
Will beat Down yes, I really don't see a win down in Tralee v Kerry.

Very poor year regardless of what way results go. A change of management has to happen.

Wouldn't be so sure of change. I'd say at least another year and possibly 2. Chair in last year and won't want another selection process.. Easier leave in situ Onionbagger (Westmeath) - Posts: 99 - 06/05/2025 14:16:37 2607114 Link 0 |
Expect a fired up Down to land in Mullingar. They will want to redeem themselves too. Not a given the way were playing. They kept Offaly in Christy Ring for a second year as far as I can remember. Hopefully we can do it. Would be really poor if we find ourselves in Christy Ring hurling. overdabar (Westmeath) - Posts: 253 - 06/05/2025 20:16:30 2607217 Link 0 |
No chance he will do a second year, manager knows that himself.

Down have been horrendous in both games, totally out of their depth, we're not playing well but home advantage especially in contrast to travelling to Portaferry will be worth 3-4 points and Down's confidence is shot. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2155 - 06/05/2025 22:07:48 2607243 Link 0 |
Any insight to how any of the clubs are going in the league ? Gaawestmeath (Westmeath) - Posts: 99 - 09/05/2025 07:47:25 2607734 Link 0 |
Raharney & clonkill look to be going well. Gaels seem to be suffering from a county final loss hangover, haven't been impressed from what I've seen. Castletown not setting the world alight but missing the county lads & not focused on league. Pollard are missing too many players. Is this the year a promoted team stays up?? westmeathgaa11 (Westmeath) - Posts: 312 - 09/05/2025 21:57:54 2607920 Link 1 |
Best of luck to the minor team v Dublin, not going to to be easy but never give up and the potential is there preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 803 - 10/05/2025 10:45:24 2607981 Link 1 |
The difference in hurling standards between the various tiers was unfortunately evident in Joristown. The Westmeath lads tried hard but Dublin were superior in every way, a couple of soft goals took the bare look off the scoreboard but it was over at half time. The minors won all four matches in tier two and Dublin lost all three in tier one and today the gulf between the sides was vast. Jesus a big loss, especially considering we were supposed to have a strong team......7 goals is worrying

We are stronger next year. This years side had potential and were in bonus territory but ultimately Dublins experience in Tier 1 was evident.

On what basis are we stronger next year? Conor Williams available and Cleary and Maleady but likes of Burke, Fleming, McCauley, Aherne, Monaghan, Kiernan, Mulligan and Higgins all gone, the gap today was extremely obvious, how that is bridged seems impossible, Dublin likely to be beaten next time out based on results so far, Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2155 - 10/05/2025 19:41:44 2608149 Link 0 |
Maleady isn't available next year, he's overage. Next year's group are stronger than this years. The last couple of years they've competed well against top counties, beat a kilkenny schools selection in the combined leinster schools final in Cusack Park last year. Conor Williams, MJ Long, Eoghan Beehan, Dean Kelly, Thomas Wrafter, Conor Cleary,Cian McKeogh notable players and you'd expect the likes of Conor Raleigh to be brought up too. This years team won 5/6 of the leinster games, McKeogh did well with them hopefully next years group show their strength. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 1034 - 10/05/2025 20:42:59 2608177 Link 0 |
The heads dropped after the block down mistake for the first goal and two more in quick succession..up until that Dublin were being held and looked a poor enough team... westmeath are a far better team than this scoreline shows and they didn't get the breaks today..I don't think the perceived gap between between tier two and the lower end of tier one is big, laois were narrowly beaten today by Wexford. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 803 - 10/05/2025 21:05:47 2608192 Link 0 |
The scoreline was ultimately kind to us, we got two fortuitous goals, didn't get what breaks? Reality was what happened today, saying we're better than the scoreline suggests means nothing. Laois running Wexford close is just a sign that they were an excellent tier two side, they annihilated Offaly by 31 points, we need to face facts, no one is at fault, we have 15 clubs and eight of those are in four amalgamated teams, that's compared to Dublin with more hurlers in Ballynoden and Na Fianna combined. Some brilliant performances from the minor team this year, and going on previous year's next year's minor team should be stronger. Have still a good few too hold on to from this year, a lot of good under 16s and adding the likes of Conor Raleigh, Lorcan Masterson possibly Luke Ward should strengthen it even more Marooned22 (Westmeath) - Posts: 3 - 11/05/2025 00:22:53 2608275 Link 0 |
