Hopefully we will have a great weekends hurling. All the finals are hard to call. Southern Gaels have surprised everybody with a nice brand of hurling and stopped Brownstown from having a 100% record in the league section. There wont be much in it but Brownstown's tradition of winning finals might see them squeak home. Delvin v Fr Daltons equally tight. The crisp hurling of Delvin against the power of Daltons. Can the southerns control Clinton enough? Will Cox play? The 2 Mccabes,Clear and Kearney all fine hurlers. I think Daltons bench might get them home. Sundays minor final should be a cracker. We have had a fine championship with 6 competitive teams.Clonkill shocked Plunketts in the semi final and might have the momentum. The Gaels intensity and stout defence against Castletown's class and brilliant forwards. Will the 5 weeks break be a problem for the black and ambers? If there is the slightest sign of it the Gaels hunger will be key. Cadtletown need to have this match under control before Mcnicholas's and Malones arrival or they will go the sane way as Raharney and Clonkill. jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1576 - 21/10/2024 22:58:19 2576275 Link 0 |
Will Milltown's game on Monday have any affect on Fr.Dalton's on Saturday. If hurling is their second choice is there a chance of lads pulling out of the Dalton's team or having their mintues managed. I know the Milltown management will try and pull rank.. Think Jack Duncan is their only starter on Saturday and he's a good forward, can't see him not playing, he's young and fit, 48 hours later won't be an issue for a lad like him with proper recovery. Think Garrycastle have a player also involved. Fixture has to be played with intermediate football champions scheduled to play on Saturday 2nd. Id say Garrycastle's Cian Mccarthy would have hurling as his No1 on county panel.

And if he gets injured will he be recovered in 48hrs. Big risk so big pressure on the young fella. Hopefully he'll play both and no issues.

Dylan Murtagh is regularly used for Dalton's as well. Milltown have been knocking on the door of senior for years and won't want any distraction. It would be tough on Dalton's if they haven't a full hand to play with.

Can see Delvin winning, especially if Clinton, Coll, the two Ennis's and Cox are all on form.

Intermediate and Junior football finals should have been played on the 12th of October the day before the senior final. This would have freed up last weekend for any replays.

But they weren't and that's a pointless post. Turning back the clocks hardly an option. Surely those sides deserve a Sunday for their finals? Attendance always a lot lower on a Saturday. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1881 - 25/10/2024 17:27:58 2576924 Link 0 |
The clocks are being turned back tomorrow night though

I see very good coverage of the shinty this year on social media. Am I right in saying no Westmeath representatives as regards players. Good to see Kevin Obrien as coach. It looks a very strong team with Cody the two Morrison lads and Aidan McCarthy from Clare. Is it ón tv? Danup (Westmeath) - Posts: 45 - 26/10/2024 07:07:53 2576972 Link 0 |
Congratulations to intermediate champions Brownstown and Senior B champions Fr Daltons! Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 922 - 26/10/2024 17:53:28 2577055 Link 0 |
Two very different games, master stroke by Brownstown management to place Brian Guerin at 14, he's got pace, wins possession well, scoring five goals in an adult championship final is probably a piece of history, Brownstown have been very good all year and won championship and Div 3 of the league. Senior B was a fantastic match, two sides hurled superbly especially in first half, conditions deteriorated in second half but excitement level didn't, Dalton's scored last three points to win, felt for Darragh Clinton who has been tremendous all year for Delvin but missed a late free to level it. Jack Kearney, Brian McCabe, Ivan Smyth, Maxwell, Jack Duncan and Owen McCabe were the standouts for Fr Daltons, Darragh Clinton, Josh Coll and Dean Ennis impressed for Delvin and were unlucky to be on the losing side. The vision and use of the ball by the likes of Kearney, McCabe, Coll and Ennis in this match was superb and even when the weather turned poor in the second half.

To be fair they did the same in semifinal v Raharney.Brownstown were very good after winning division 2 league title.Senior B final what a contest first half outstanding 2nd half not as good but the closeness kept excitement levels high. The best Senior B final yet after the best intermediate club performance.

Very dissapointing to be called off, the pitch cut up v badly in the Minor final, add to that the warm ups, the parade and the Town Band... Bigjoe1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 55 - 27/10/2024 15:57:39 2577161 Link 0 |
Correct decision by Barry Kelly to call it off, conditions were dreadful. Player safety was definitely a concern, no harm postponing to another date as that weather would have definitely taken from the occasion and spectacle.

It was the best decision to be made, the pitch was churning up very badly. Player welfare the overriding concern. With all the rucking going on it the conditions the pitch would look like a herd of cattle had got at it if play continued. 2maroonjerseys (Galway) - Posts: 82 - 27/10/2024 16:39:41 2577182 Link 0 |
