I also felt that the scoreline in the Sligo Galway game was a bit unfair on Sligo and a lot of little things went against Sligo that day that could have made it a lot closer.. I think also that the scoreline in the Connacht Final might have sparked a bit of complacency on Kildare behalf. 4. I think Kildare will still get through to qualifiers ( even if it is on score difference) ye should plan on at least 3 more championship games this year ( maybe more) and build on these for 2024 ( or even 2023)." I'd share a lot of that optimism. It's hard to see sometimes but there is a great group of players there. It seems Kildare right now have the game to kind of shut up shop and be competitive with most teams. The problem is when teams do the same to Kildare they aren't able to break them down either. Try something different and it's way too open. Having shipped a lot of goals last year I feel getting the defensive structure right is the first step. The scores will then start to come - hopefully in the weeks ahead. I'll certainly keep the faith in what is probably the most talented group of Kildare players in years - if they can gel into a team they'll be a handful for anyone. My favourite venue other than perhaps Thurles. Have Kildare footballers ever played there before? I'm sure they have but I can't recall. I think the last time Dublin footballers played Kilkenny there was in 1974 when both were in Division Two. Apparently Paddy Grace the Kilkenny secretary offered Heffo the points before the game! Played a couple of games against Offaly there in the 2002 Leinster semi final and won by a point after extra time in the replay. The drawn game was the same day Ireland were beaten by Spain on Penalties in Korea. Ireland's striker at the time Niall Quinn ended up playing football for Eadestown after his soccer career was finished. Any thoughts on the Tailteann cup in Kildare?. I remember Meath being in it last year, being at the first game in the Tailteann last year felt very strange, there was a sense of shock in the crowd. But after this there was no choice but to get on with it. Kildare will inevitably get out of group and by the time your in the quarters your league and Leinster disappointments will have been a long time previously. More the question of will the disappointment of their season so far result in the players giving up on the season altogether?. Have any of the better players walked away for rest of season?. Delighted to see Brian Flanagan being given the Kildare job. The job he did with the U20's means that he's been responsible for the belief around the county that good days should be ahead. While there is certainly the talent in the county to be performing at a higher level than we've shown in the past couple of years - it will take a bit of time to turn around the fortunes. Good luck to him - not the worst time to be taking over Kildare. Targets for next year? Promotion to D2 and if it is the Tailteann Cup - a cut at winning that along with the blooding of new players. Do that and then roll into Championship season in good form and kick on from there. Leinster could be a lot more open over the next few years than people expect. Kildare, based on underage success, strength of club championship and schools combined with playing population are best placed within Leinster to make that breakthrough. While the County team have underperformed in the past couple of years there's a lot going right in the County. On a different note - it's great to see St Conleths back open again. Decent crowd too.
