Will we see a Kilcoyne O'Connor midfield again or Cummins to come in and start there? He needs to play somewhere. upsligo (Sligo) - Posts: 9 - 16/05/2025 11:00:42 2609988 Link 0 |
Another shocker of a performance . For the game in 2 weeks time against Kildare I hope that 3 of todays starting forwards are on the bench plus 1 of the midfielders. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2129 - 18/05/2025 15:32:15 2610593 Link 0 |
Plus who is our 3rd choice keeper. He needs to warm up...

Did not think O'Connor had a bad game, bit harsh.

He wasn't a forward. Collectively they were very poor, some individuals played well. Quinn saved us , but in general it was really poor. Leitrim kicked it away.

Another case of playing bad and winning but sure haven't we achieved what we wanted 2 wins. I thought it strange to throw Devaney in seeing as he hasn't played in about 2 months. Success rate in middle of the field was shocking. Quinn was great in fairness. Kildare have nothing to fear though. Sligoman1234 (Sligo) - Posts: 536 - 18/05/2025 21:00:17 2610757 Link 0 |
I don't know if you were actually at the match today? Leitrim were the better team all round. Outscored Sligo even when a man down for 10 mins. Created far more goal chances and unlucky not to score more of them. That's a young Leitrim team and they competed to the very end. Even against us last week shifting a heavy defeat they fought to the end with heads up. They have great heart in fairness. St.Conleth (Kildare) - Posts: 1726 - 18/05/2025 21:26:36 2610771 Link 1 |
Apologies, wrong thread on reply ! :)

And still lost…what's your point?

The only stat that's important is the final score... I had flagged it a while ago that this was the game Leitrim would throw everything at us, which is what happened. Their skill level and execution was poor. I think Tipp will beat them now to finish a sorry year for Leitrim Taypot (Sligo) - Posts: 145 - 19/05/2025 07:46:53 2610837 Link 0 |
On club matters the demise of Tourlestrane seems to have been exaggerated. They are flying it in the league. Good win for Shamrock Gaels too but the margin in Mullinabreena result over Coolera was a surprise. Another win for them and they should be safe which I wouldn't have banked on at the beginning of the league. Harps look to be in trouble along with Curry. Difficult to judge those teams with several county players missing just yet. Predicting wins this coming week for Marys, Molaise, Coolera, Drumcliffe and Tourlestrane. Not to pour too much cold water on Tourlestrane early season form but they don't have any county representatives? So they should be nearly at full strength where most other clubs are currently missing their key players.

Hyde Park chosen for your final group game v Kildare. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4078 - 20/05/2025 13:47:00 2611318 Link 0 |
We will take the Hyde gladly. It has been a happy hunting ground for us in the past. The proximity of the ground won't win the game for us however. We will need a massive improvement. The prize is big. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2129 - 20/05/2025 16:26:14 2611355 Link 0 |
Genuine question here, I have been impressed with Sligo over the past 2 years and with your U20s I thought this year would have seen promotion and maybe a Tailteann Cup title. PeterQ92 (Donegal) - Posts: 160 - 20/05/2025 20:43:20 2611403 Link 1 |
We had a poor start to the year but recovered well. We retained our Div 3 status comfortably. We are still on target for Tailteann success. The next few weeks will determine that. At the end of the year MC Entees future will be decided same as every year. Speculating and idle gossip is unhelpful before the year is out.

Tailteann is quite difficult this year with both promoted Division 3 teams in it due to qualification procedures elsewhere and it'll take a massive task to get to the semi final I think unless we can somehow get over Kildare and get a home QF. The league started off terribly and things began to settle in again, perhaps it was failure to adapt to new rules at the start but the end of the league campaign was positive as was the performance in Mayo, although given where they are now it's not much to benchmark against anymore. Favourites tags never suit Sligo well and we were raging favourites against Tipp and Leitrim and while the margin and manner of victory is not what it should be, we still have 4 points. Personally I feel our game in the middle of the field is the problem, be it kick-out selection by the keeper as in Carrick or lack of good fielders and success on breaking ball. A certain amount of that goes down to management but if you search the county I'm not sure there's any natural midfielder that is sitting at home by choice from the county panel. Some of the u20s are being blooded in, you'll have some posters here who will say not soon enough, but it takes time. Some of them in club games haven't shown either, I always believe a footballer doesn't mature until they hit 23/24 unless you're an exceptional talent. We didn't have a Paudi Clifford style player on either of the successful u20 teams so hopefully in club championship this year and next year we'll see them step up. We recovered but I wouldn't say well. Not to the level we are at 12 months ago. I'd be shocked if this team makes the closing stages of a Tailteann Cup this year. I think McEntee has done a good job and whatever happens happens. If I was to guess, I'd say it's his last year.

Sligonian very quiet, McEntee's impending 10 year extension following Declan Rouse's election as chairman must be a worry for him.

Thank Christ for that, don't rock the boat or he will return with a long spiel of rubbish followed by Mr Underhill that will agree with everything he said.
