Thanks for pointing that out, Lyons is a great player and I always had high hopes about him after watching him in the Connacht minor final in 2017. He has progressed very well. You might want to read back what you said about Cummins though lol. I don't think 2-7 are as consistently excellent and proven as you say. 136 pts conceded in division 3 is poor even with new rules. Kildare hammered Leitrim today but Leitrim were only 8-5 down after 27 min and then they caputilated. With their defensive set up against Mayo I am a bit surprised they conceded so heavily. Hopefully bodes well for us but they usually they up their game for us so I am still feeling cautiously confident. A few kildare posters have said poachers warm up was miles too heavy maybe with an eye on us. Colm McGee shared a video of Tubbercurry ground preparing for the game tomorrow. It looks fantastic. Fair play to all and enjoy the game. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1852 - 11/05/2025 04:30:19 2608287 Link 0 |
Good win, closer than you'd like but got it done. Alan McLoughlin immense. Great to see Cummins back. upsligo (Sligo) - Posts: 2 - 11/05/2025 15:17:24 2608430 Link 0 |
Very close to 2k people in Tubber for the game today. Logistically it went off very well with an abundance of volunteers so well done Tubbercurry. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2100 - 11/05/2025 17:12:46 2608464 Link 0 |
The rain before and during the first half left the pitch slippy and the ball very wet. Our handling errors were basic , no idea what the keeper was thinking about, for the goal we conceded. We sauntered through the game with little or no pace except odd runs from Lally and Towey. MC Guinness at centre back didn't work either. Certainly the performance asks a lot of questions going forward. Good to see Cummins return. His physical presence is needed. We missed a lot of chance in the second half. When Murphy isn't there you then realize his importance. We should take care of Leitrim next week. Tipperary were very poor. They had 2 extra forwards for a period today and never really made it count. Taypot (Sligo) - Posts: 118 - 11/05/2025 18:37:38 2608503 Link 0 |
1149 was the official attendance according to the announcer but as mentioned we were treated to a poor game. Yes the conditions played a part but we were cleaned out of it at mid field. Reilly, Cummins and indeed Doherty when he came on all played well but I tell ya I'm not overly confident heading to Carrick next Sunday. Either we underperformed or else Leitrim will be beaten by a sturdy enough Tipp team.

You could be correct about the attendance, I was only quoting Sky Sports correspondence Gavin Cawley who said 1949 people attended.

Attendance of 1,949 was announced at the game. With regard to the match itself Sligo played in spurts. Poor for the first 10 minutes, completely dominant for the following 17 minutes. Switched off for the few minutes before halftime which gave Tipp a lifeline 1-1 and a black card. Under pressure for the first 12 minutes after halftime with 13 men. Did well to only concede 3 points during this time. Kicked on again once back to the full compliment of players but we were very wasteful during that time. For the next game they need to work on converting goal chances (at least 4 goal chances butchered in the last 15 minutes) and discipline (both red cards were avoidable and poor discipline by the players involved). The substitution of the the second black card player nearly came back to haunt Sligo as we played the final 7/8 minutes with an injured Mullan standing at the corner flag. I must have misheard it so, tbf was impossible to hear announcements. Good analysis on where we are.

Great attendance for the game, Its a pity we didn't put on a better show. Tipp who finished bottom half of Division 4 seem to cause us difficulties. There seems to be a clear pattern with this team and management where competitive games get us going but gaps where we are in training blocks seems to make us regress. It doesn't seem to be something we have figured out yet. There is definitely a part of me that feels we are vunerable for next week but we should have too much for Leitrim, however I certainly don't feel complacent. I still think the players will up a level and find a way. Yesterday if we didn't get the black card we probably would have pushed on and won more comfortably. Letting teams back into the game is not a good habit but does happen us. Mullen would be a loss but Murphy should be fine to start. All in all a disappointing performance that you get away with and move on. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1852 - 12/05/2025 16:47:33 2608929 Link 1 |
Fair play to Tubber, parking and access was well done and the pitch looked great. The fact that the lads have probably not played with a wet ball for 6 weeks could excuse the handling to a degree but the 1st goal was junior B. We were slow to start and worrying that our first shot on goal in the 2nd half took 15 mins. McLoughlin good but I'd like to see him back himself more on 2 pointers. Well done to Tubbercurry. It looked fantastic, and a good atmosphere. johncreilly (Sligo) - Posts: 158 - 12/05/2025 19:29:45 2608989 Link 1 |
Congratulations to Tubbercurry GAA. Pitch, parking , refreshments all in order. Had plenty of help as well which was great to see. Pity about the game, we just about got over the line, but same will be said for Sunday - all about getting over the line. RealSouthSligo (Sligo) - Posts: 119 - 13/05/2025 13:18:23 2609204 Link 1 |
How does this work, I thought Rouse was interim until convention and then the chairman for next 5 years would be voted on, when will it be decided? I know the 5 years is the max as if opposed it can be shorter. When you say a lot to deal with, can you elaborate? Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1852 - 13/05/2025 16:33:26 2609286 Link 0 |
