Replying To dave1988:  "I was at the elphin vs harps game and was very impressed with a Henry lad in full forward line. Very good ball winner and good on the ball but probably has a bit of work to do on other parts of his game. What age is he. Any relation to Paddy Henry"
He's 21. Was on both Sligo U 20 teams that won Connacht. I thought his season was over as he broke his arm in the group stages of the championship. I heard at the game that he got the cast off on Thursday. He probably had no training or ball work done for weeks. Very talented player and probably needs to hit the gym now. I think the Paddy Henry you mentioned is probably from Tourlestrane. I don't know if they are related.
Awesome performance from Coolera. They never hit the panic button and Ballina just couldn't get their lead past 2 points at any stage. What I noticed from both games that I was at, is that referee's let a lot more physical stuff go than you would get within the county (at least within this county) Having said that I thought the second last free that Sean Taylor got looked very soft which ultimately led to the last free to level the game. I don't know why Murphy got a black card.
Leaving aside all that it was an absolute dire match to watch and the sooner that new rules come in the better.

He's very young so. Ya he looked rusty but he won nearly every ball that was kicked into him and elphin had 2 on him for a lot of the time. A player like him that can win ball with ease will be very important with new rules. I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing for sligo seniors this year.

A lot of the Sligo U20 Connacht winning players from 2022/23 are now standing out at club football and has risen the level of Sligo club football. Coolera have Ross Doherty,Mark McDaniel, Ballymote Jack Lavin and Eastern Harps Matt Henry and Dylan Walsh. Rising tide lifts all boats as they say.

You are right to single Matt Henry out, Dave1988. Hopefully he commits to Sligo Seniors this year. He has huge potential as already pointed out. He was very impressive for the u20s. He has pace, power, skill and can score. He has had a few unlucky injuries but if he stays healthy he will bring a lot to Harps and hopefully Sligo for years to come. One to watch for sure.

I agree with Drax, the 22/23 u20s are driving up club championship probably quicker than most expected. Happy for posters like Sean Stagg on here and Balymote. I'd love to see them win Connacht.

The only concern I had from the weekend was the newly laid Markievicz park pitch look very poor around 20m line on both sides, anyone else have concerns who was on the pitch? It looked very cut up..

Two of three ain't bad. Great result for Coolera and now a home final where they will be under dogs again. It certainly was poor fare to watch but it was always exciting due to the close nature of the game. The support from Coolera was disappointing. They will need to double or treble their numbers for the next day. It's only a few miles to travel for them . Padraig Pearses supporters will travel. I thought O Carroll and Taylor were excellent . Ross Doherty a real warrior and then you have Murphy. He is playing better than ever. Keelan Harte justified my selection on the team of the year with the penalty save. A couple of those Ballina lads would have been playing with the Mayo U 20 team that got caught with the late sucker punch in the Connacht final a few years ago. Got caught again at the death yesterday. They won't have fond memories of Markievicz Park. The Henry lad that was mentioned from the previous days game is a right good player. I hope he gets called up to the senior ranks.

St Molaise Gaels are on the lookout for a new senior manager. I would like to thank Jimmy and his management team for all their efforts over the last few years. All great servants to the club and brought us a long way and have laid a strong foundation for any incoming manager to take over. Also a big shoutout to the underage managers too. Not sure who would be wiling to step up within the club as no obvious candidate so I'd say it is likely an outside manager takes over, I could see Gerry McGowan or O Hara going for it and both should be approached. It is a great job for anyone looking to work with a young talented hungry group.
