Louth v Westmeath. Since 2000 Louth have played Westmeath 28 times in League, Championship, o byrne cup and o byrne shield. This is the county they have played the most since 2000. The last time that they won away in Westmeath was in the league in 1995, O Byrne Cup away was in 2017, O Byrne Sheild away was last year and in the Championship away was in 2014. Here is the breakdown of the meetings from 2000: Louths record!

League: Played 10 Won 6 Draws 1 Lost 3
O Byrne Cup: Played 10 Won 4 Draws 0 Lost 6
O Byrne Sheild: Played 1 Won 1 Draws 0 Lost 0
Leinster: Played 5 Won 4 Draws 0 Lost 1
Qualifiers: Played 2 Won 0 Draws 0 Lost 2

Overall Record since 2000!
Played 28 Won 15 Draws 1 Lost 12
Winning rate 54%

Louth and Westmeath matches are always close ones. The last time Louth won their opening league fixture was back in 2017 when they won away at Laois.

Haven't been in Mullingar since 2004 O'Byrne Cup. If memory serves that was Páidi's (RIP) first match as Westmeath manager. And what a year they went on to have

Val Andrews was in charge of Louth. I think it went to extra-time and they pipped us. Please god we get the win on Sunday

looking at the XV announced Ger means business anyway

Looked like Louth squad nor the management were briefed on the new rules ahead of todays match in Mullingar. Too many technical fouls brought WH back into the match and in fairness there would have been no complaints if they took the spoils today. Great to get the away win though.

Louth got out of jail yesterday. It's always great winning close matches. Next up the Rossies and it's at home at Drawda.

Yep, looked like some of the lads were not up to speed on the rules. Sideline ball for WMeath in last 10 mins ended up a free in front of goal, not sure why but someone must have said something.
Good to get the win but coukd have gone the other way. Tougher tests ahead.
On a side note, the facilities in Cusack Park were terrible, toilets locked, toilets with no lights and no way to dry your hands etc.

Confusing afternoon for me too on the new rules, so glad to get out of there with a win, we could easily have lost it and had no complaints.

One thing which annoyed me, playing with a strong wind in the first half, too much sideways and backward passing instead of heading forward, which Westmeath did in the second half.

Tough slog and conditions for the players out there yesterday , 2 points on the board and move on.

I think the toilets closed on terrace side and no lights in the toilets on the stand side were due to power outage.

Why is the game in Drogheda next week ? Problem with Ardee pitch ?

We have a great record in Ardee, newly laid pitch in Drogheda, not many of the panel would have played on it since it was relaid, and cant train on it this week as no floodlights .

Roscommon a tough task next Sunday , in my opinion a bigger task now playing it in Drogheda, but so be it.

Trees behind top goals in Ardee fell in the storm and knocked the wall, ball stop nets and goals.

That was some performance from Andy given that he's been away from inter-county for a few years. Could have got a few more scores for himself. Craig Lennon was excellent too

Hopefully that's not true about Drogheda. I thought the days of it being used as an inter county venue were long gone

First opening round league win since 2017 and any win regardless of how the team played is welcome!! Great to see so many new league debutants also along with Andy McDonnell who was super after a 4 year absence. The new rules will take a while and you could see that yesterday but we're off the mark which is all that counts. Winning ugly is a great trait

The experience gained in the last few years will have given lads the confidence to eke out wins in these tight games

Roscommon is in the Gaelic grounds in Drogheda. I also believe the other homes games with the exception of the Meath game are also in Drogheda. Info coming from lads I'm the IRaghallaighs.
