Replying To supersub15: "If you look at Carlow's gaa history you will see that Eire Og wasn't born till 1959 approx. 1959 Tullow ( St Patrick's. ) won the senior county title. Out of nowhere Eire Og won it in 1960. O'Hanrahans won the senior title in 1961. Eire Og won it in 1962. However Tullow wonback to back in 1963 and '64. Since then St. Patrick's have not been in the mix. - What's the story." Would I be correct in saying that Grange pulled away from Tullow in the late 60's, reformed their club and this had a big impact on football in Tullow?

So I going to make a calculated guess and say you are totally incorrect.
PS. You maybe reading too many comics.

Now that the championships have finished, has there been much of a start on the county set up getting going? Much of a backroom team set up yet? Many of the mentors staying onboard from the last few years?

Back in the 1960s and even up to the 1980s, there were a lot of small clubs dotted around Carlow. `
The Ballymurphy football club (now part of MLR), Milford (reformed for a few years, now gone), Cournellan (also MLR), Hacketstown, Rathvilly and Ballinabranna had hurling teams, Leighlinbridge was a dual club, Nurney had a football team, Royal Oak also.
There were the Shamrocks, who lost most of their players to Eire Og, and then merged with O'Hanrahan's. Rathoe also had a football team. There was also a Kilcloney hurling side, too.

Replying To Overthebar53: "You're correct AFAIK It had a detrimental effect on tullow, one that it has failed to recover from." I'm sorry he is not correct, I have dug deep perhaps even very deep and so I found Grange was never officially attached to St. Patricks, and so it is even more inaccurate to suggest it failed to recover from something they were never officially attached to, I would go as far as saying the '60 was a reasonably successful decade for the club, ok it could have been better, but that applies to all clubs in all counties with the exception of none, read on. Joe Nolan received the Carlow Weekly Sports Star Award the following week for his magnificent performance in the final of 1963. Tullow went on to win the double by beating Clonmore in the league decider the same year, a much different Clonmore team with a score much closer of 1-4 to 0-5. Again, Joe Nolan was instrumental in the win. Jack Mulhall got the vital goal and a point, with Luke Jackman (0-2) and James O'Toole (0-1) also on the scoresheet. At the end of the year, Joe Nolan received the Carlow Sports Star of the Year Award for his performances for club and county. 1963 was truely a great year for the club on the field of play and was celebrated in the Slaney Hotel for the club dinner dance.
The 1964 Senior Championship final put us against Kildavin (St Vincents) and the first day was a draw 2-6 each. Our lads won the replay 2-8 to 1-5 with Pat Brophy and Sean Nolan in great form in front of a crowd of 6,500 in Dr. Cullen Park. Joe Nolan was the captain in 1964 and lifted the cup with Mayo native Frank Costello scoring 1-3 having transferred into the club.
The hopes of 3 in a row in the senior championship were dashed also with Clonmore beating us in the 1965 semi final.
There were many other tournaments played around this time with the team victorious on many travels. The final of 1966 was a draw but the replay was never played with Kildavin being awarded the cup
Our u16s won the A Championship in 1966 also and the team team were very unlucky not to win the Minor A in 1968, with the one of our main players Martin Coady being refused entry to the field of play by the county secretary as he had played soccer and was pictured in the paper as part of a team that won the Kilkenny u18 league. The Ban wasn't enforced massively around the time, but it was enforced that day! Our minors did go on to win the league that year.
It pains me to understand why some posters do not dig a bit deeper for their info before posting.

There were no selectors there, just manager and S&C. Not a good start, I believe.

The Carlow regional under 16s tournament started tonight. Have to say I was delighted to see it start off so well. As ye know I have been posting about regional teams for years in here and to see it finally happen was great. This can only be positive for football in Carlow and hopefully it goes from strength to strength rolling out to all ages.

To whom it might concern just a gentle reminder to let you know that Steven Poacher has been announced as Leitrim's new senior football manager for the 2025 season subject to ratification. All and all it should be interesting.

Be very interesting to see how Poacher approaches the new rules. Personally I think he's a great coach and he'll be ahead of most in working a strategy to make the most of the rules. Fair play to Leitrim.

Carlow put up big scores under him and were hard to beat. Looks like a very dynamic management team.

It's really sad that Leitrim's county board can see the value of Poacher and St Ledger, but ours can't.
