Well, good question; was anyone at the game today can provide an insight? I wonder how it can happen but there you go. Someone was asleep at the wheel, clearly.

Very enjoyable weekend for Leitrim football. 3 county finals in the same weekend doesn't happen too often and they were a joy to watch.

Eslin vs Bornacoola
This game had a great atmosphere, Cloone was absolutely packed. Bornacoola had too much for eslin, but eslin did have a bit of fight in them before the final whistle. Hopefully Bornacoola will find their feet again and win another junior championship in 2 years.

Ballinamore vs Mohill
Excellent game with so much action. Very hard to separate sides. Ballinamore will feel hard done by but penalties are a lottery. Number 26 who came on for mohill looked very impressive.

Melvin Gaels vs Allen Gaels
I attended the game and was very surprised with how poor melvin gaels were. Allen gaels were by far the better team but at the same time melvin gaels were a different team in the last 6/7 minutes. It looked like they had given up, especially when one of they're players booted the ball into the stand which could have hurt someone. That game will live in the nightmares of Allen gaels for a long time. Well worth the admission fee..

i was at it. Drumshanbo thought they had it, took off players, high fives all round. they should be mortified, but fair play to Melvin Gaels, never give up is the key to anything. it ain't over till its over. good on them.

my god - i can understand taken lads off if it was a challenge game but in the middle of a championship final to secure senior status ???? madness. Intermediate is going to be even harder won next year.

Typical Leitrim Pessimist!! Should be ashamed of yourself. Theres more chance of that happening than you talking sense on this forum. Mohill are more than good enough to win an All Ireland!!

Cavan man Dermot McCabe has got the Westmeath senior job and there's murmers that his good friend Mickey Graham is joining his Backroom team. This is like leaving your wife for a young one.

Replying To leitrim4sam:  "Of course they should celebrate as much as they can, Dromod will be hopping tonight (well one side of it anyway!) . They found themselves in Junior and made the most of it by winning the competition this year.

They played some great football today, I think the standard of the junior final was excellent. Eslin fight back was too late, but in fairness Bornacoola were superior throughout. Conor Beirne was immense and Mossy was lording midfield for long periods what players they are. Bornacoola's Moran and Croghan were sheer class throughout also. Bornacoola should hold their own within the Connacht championship. Out of all the Leitrim teams they might just progress the furthest. Well done to them."
To call the standard excellenct is a stretch. The Beirnes really do everything for Eslin. Bornacoola played well but they were given far too much space in the forward line. Really cannot see them lasting in intermediate next year with 3 teams coming down.
However it was fantastic to see such a large crowd at a junior final and hopefully with the likes of Aughavas and co. down next year junior A will become far more competitive

Seems to be the norm around Leitrim GAA at this stage

If you were educated. You would know mohill don't have a handball team and haven't since 1995 in which I was a member of

Well, I don't know whether to be flattered or insulted! However I will admit I have enjoyed when Mr Maryland has quoted Shakespeare and amused by his irreverent references to "Coach Moran", his disdain for the erstwhile Leitrim supremo abundantly clear to even a tyro in GAA matters in our lovely county.

Yes I thought the same. Players were clapping and smiling coming off. No disrespect to the Allen Gaels subs who came on but not sure if they were up to the standard, think they may have been pity subs which is outrageous to do in a championship final. Thought that Allen Gaels game management was v poor kept pressing MG when they had the ball and had a 8 point lead. Full credit to MG never gave up and scored three great goals.

Bad management last year cost them aswell v Annaduff. Conceded goal after goal in the first half and only made changes in the forward line. The rest is history.

i will just say on the subject of management, some of the Melvin Gaels management behaved shockingly, with one of their management team sprinting 30 metres or more at the end of the game just to shoulder the 4th official to the ground. I hope whoever he is gets the correct punishment.

Have we considered the Drumshanbo manager as a suitor to take the Leitrim job? I believe his decision making and ability to see out games could be just what this county needs.

Extremely strange way to celebrate a historic win. Must be one weird individual to think "I'm going nail a 4th official who is a lot older than myself cause we won wooohooo". The book should be thrown at him.

Same with O'Hara. Two games in a row he gave abuse to the officials so he should be given a ban. He may have a winning pedigree as a manager but he is not someone I could stomach being the Leitrim manager.

Completely agree. He showed great bottle. Many teams would have folded under that sort of pressure but not him!!
