I would be happy to see a Roscommon man get the job. Mark Dowd was on FOD's minor management team in 2006. He managed Roscommon to an U21 Connacht title in 2015. We lost the All Ireland semi final to Tyrone. Unluckily lost the 2016 Connacht U21 Final in the dying minutes to Mayo under Dowd. He has been a selector for the senior team. As others have posted, it'll be about the backroom team. I don't know who he'd bring with him. Would he have many contacts outside Roscommon. Not sure about that.

Lots of experience going back as coach with the 2006 Minor All-Ireland winning team. Manager with the U21s that really should have won back to back Connacht titles (we left the 2016 title behind us in Markievicz Park) Coach when we won Connacht senior titles in 2010,2019 and was coach or manager with Strokestown 2022 Ballaghaderreen 2012 which was two county titles won against the odds. Talk that John Rogers will be with him, though that would be a loss Shane Morans U17 management team. Also rumours about Gerry McGowan who's currently coaching Corofin. He was with us for one year previously, 2023 with the highlights of finishing 3rd in Div 1, beating Mayo in McHale Park in the championship and drew with the eventual All-Ireland winners Dublin in Croke Park. Don't want to jump the gun in the fashion of what happened with Dublin and Declan Darcy, so it remians to be seen if the rumours are true. But on thinking about it, I don't think there is another Roscommon man that is more qualified apart from Fergie O'Donnell. He knows the club scene inside out. Has managed senior clubs in Ros and Mayo and won county titles with them. Involved in two Roscommon senior management teams? Involved in the 2006 minor management team. Did well with the u21s as manager. So he definitely has cut his teeth at all levels of the county set up. Seems like a very level headed likeable fella and I'd imagine has built up good relationships within the county. As has been said many times, will also depend on the quality of coaches he can bring on board. The managers roll is much more than coaching now, a lot seems to be logistics, setting the culture and philosophy, knitting the coaching and strategy together. Given Roscommon's lack of a COE and the hoops the county team must have to jump through for facilities, he'll know exactly the score on that front and will have the contacts as well for aquiring facilities.

Mark dowd has been putting a team together from what i am hearing and a decision wont be made until it is seen what he is bringing to the table. two of 2006 all ireland winning team have been contacted as far as i know. Be interesting appointment but Roscommon is in transition and this appointment is absolutely massive for our future prospects so patients is needed Tarismelting22 (Roscommon) - Posts: 795 - 14/08/2025 18:35:32 2631939 Link 0 |

Who owns Strokestowns old pitch? I know it's probably worse than Corrigan Park now but that would have been an ideal pitch for the county team to use in the absence of a COE. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 318 - 14/08/2025 20:16:57 2631947 Link 0 |
You are correct in saying that Roscommon are in transition and that patience is needed. It looks like a local Roscommon person is going to be appointed and he will need at least a three year term to bed in a style of play and introduce some new players. Division 1 is going to be extremely difficult next year and the new management team will have to make a decision to use it to develop new players or go full out to try to stay up. If the Roscommon county champions do well in the club All Ireland this year it will have implications also. When I checked the bookies odds a while ago Roscommon had slipped back to 15th position so that puts things into perspective and I admire any Roscommon management team that takes it on. They will have my full support. 1. Kerry. 2/3 Donegal & Tyrone. 4. Dublin. 5. Galway. 6. Armagh. 7. Mayo. 8. Derry. 9/10. Down & Cork. 11/12. Monaghan & Meath. 13/14. Kildare & Louth. 15. Roscommon at 125/1 for the All Ireland. We have some good young players coming through and patience will certainly be needed. Hopefully the whole team and supporters will get a bounce from the new management team and Roscommon will climb the ladder a bit again over the next couple of years. A Connacht title within three years would be successful if we are being realistic. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 788 - 14/08/2025 20:57:04 2631952 Link 0 |
Alot of names has been mentioned the past few weeks around the county but I can't for the life of me understand how Liam Tully isn't been sought after to at least been involved. He is someone that was involved and got to an All-Ireland U17 final, beating Kerry along the way - Got to an U20 final, lost narrowly to Offaly and had a good management around him. blathach you need to get yourself a roscommon women instead of posting into this forum late at a night. re the new manager its important that a high profile coach is on the ticket, as we are going through a big transition especially in defence, where we are going to have put in young inexperienced defenders against seasoned div1 players. mgt need to have these players on s+c programs after there club is knocked out championship and have them at least physcially ready for championship. hontherossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 141 - 15/08/2025 11:19:56 2631997 Link 0 |

17 point win for my own club last night. Brigids were unstoppable at times in the first half. The running and kicking game they can play will come to the fore later in championship against better opposition BrigidsToom (Roscommon) - Posts: 38 - 16/08/2025 10:40:01 2632088 Link 0 |
Can anyone live with Brids? I know they played 2 of the poorest teams in the SFC but still... Ros Gaels improved in the 2nd half v a blunt enough Oran. RG wouldn't put the fear of God in anyone. Pearses with some missing lads back will be happy to get back to winning ways and beating CnaG won't go down badly either. Seanfan (Roscommon) - Posts: 73 - 16/08/2025 11:36:03 2632092 Link 0 |
I watched Pearce's and clann and really enjoyed it. How kenny didnt get a run last year is crazy. If Conor and Niall Daly get back they will give Brigid's plenty to think about dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1310 - 16/08/2025 12:07:11 2632094 Link 0 |
Dowd appointed . Poor appointment from what I'm told Dunning had absolute elite management team but county board went for cheaper option rossie4sam (Roscommon) - Posts: 28 - 16/08/2025 12:55:39 2632097 Link 0 |
Mark Dowd's name to be put forward for ratification at the next meeting of Roscommon County Board The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4139 - 16/08/2025 12:56:48 2632098 Link 0 |
The Roscommon Herald have confirmed Mark Dowd is set to be confirmed as Manager next week. Best of luck to him. Our first Roscommon native Manager in 13 years. Hope he picks a strong backroom team. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2592 - 16/08/2025 13:05:45 2632099 Link 0 |

Good response from Pearses, they needed that badly. Tumulty coming back made a huge impact. Thought Gaels set up well and came into it in the second half. Just nullified Orans threats and really limited Fitzpatrick. Don't know if the Gaels have enough firepower to really hurt the big boys. Brigids biggest issue is like Kerrys, coming out of Munster untested and getting ambushed in a knock out game. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 318 - 16/08/2025 13:35:26 2632105 Link 0 |
