Close but nothing to show for it. Maybe with a new man at the helm, they can push on from here. Playing D1 football will be a help.

Would say Roscommon are over achieving mostly but then you look at Monaghan which has a smaller population and are consistently trying to make that greater break through but just don't have the stuff to do it even though they have more talented footballers. Roscommon aren't at Monaghan's level but are still doing their best with what they have.

You had yourself convinced before the game Kerry were going to win and were proven wrong.
Team that attacked best, had most shots on goal, defended best, conceded the least, gave up the least chances and won the most clean possession and breaks in midfield was all Tyrone. Tyrone with a deserved win done without one of their best players on route to the final also.

Club championship starting in just over 3 weeks Two league finals played last weekend. Tulsk winning div 2 and Strokestown winning division 3 Div one league final Friday night in kiltoom between St Brigid's and Roscommon Gaels.

When players know that they are staking a claim to play for the county, it will heighten motivation levels and of course make the championship more competitive. The new man will have a big job ahead of him. This past season was not just good enough. Staggered over the line into D1 (OK number 1 objective) Faltered in Connacht (Disappointing) Finished bottom in AI series without winning a match (OK both Kerry and Meath are now in AI semi final)

Senior Championship
Brigids - EVS Pearses - 3/1 Roscommon Gaels - 7/1 Clann - 9/1 Boyle - 10/1 Oran - 11/1 Faithleachs - 12/1 Glaveys - 16/1 Western Gaels - 40/1 Castlerea - 50/1 Elphin - 66/1 Dominics - 66/1
Group A Pearses Clann Faithleachs Dominics
Group B Brigids Glaveys Western Gaels Elphin
Group C Roscommon Gaels Boyle Oran Castlerea
Very similar groups to last year unfortunately. And I think all 3 groups may face a similar outcome. Group A I would have Pearses winning it, Dominics last and then the winner of Clann/Faithleachs in 2nd. Same goes for Group B with Brigids top, Elphin bottom and the winner of Glaveys/W Gaels in 2nd. Group C is a small bit more open with Oran well capable of beating either Roscommon Gaels or Boyle on their day but I still think they will come 3rd. With the winner of Gaels and Boyle top and Castlerea into relegation.
Can't see past Brigids at all - their squad is just too good. 10 (after their new addition) on the Roscommon panel this year with 9 of those starting in multiple games.
Intermediate Championship Group A Eire Og Fuerty Pearses B Kilmore
Group B Tulsk Creggs Barrys Michaels
Group C Strokestown Shannon Gaels Brigids B Kilbride
Feel like the 3 winners of the groups are fairly set in stone with Eire Og, Tulsk and Strokestown. Tulsk/Strokestown to win it out with most likely Barry's going back down.
Junior Championship Group A Ballinameen Kilglass Roscommon Gaels B Brigids C
Group B Clann B Aidans Strokestown B Western Gaels B
Group C Croans Ronans Josephs Boyle B
A few contenders here - Ballinameen will fancy themselves after gaining promotion to Division 2. Group B has 2 of the favourites with Aidans and Clann B hoping to make it 3rd time lucky. Strokestown B also won Division 3 so that is a tough group. It will be interesting to see how Croans do as they have had a very poor year - albeit in Division 2.
I am going with a tentative guess that Aidans and Clann will play each other in the group and again in the final.
How do ye all think each Championship will play out?

Dessie Dolan done a brilliant job with westmeath and I could never see Mark McHugh come near us again Mark Dowd I like him but I don't think he would bring in the top coaches we need I think he would bring in lads he's worked with in club football over the years and unless we go big with top top strength and conditioning coach defensive coach and after the last couple of years we need need a top forward coach. The rest on the list can go in the bin.

Thought Andy McEntee would be in the betting odds.
Just listening to the latest Irish Examiner podcast. Very inetresting to hear Shane McEntee and what Robbie Brennan and his management team brought to Meath. Big focus on S&C and structured play to utilise the new rules as best as possible. They like us, got caught a bit with the use of the keeper as the extra man when the rule changed but managed to adapt and rejig for championship. Attacking play was all about getting the best out of their marquee forwards. The complete opposite of what we were doing.

Very hard to look past St. Brigit's this year but stranger things have happened. It would be nice to get another winner (that would be the 5th winner in 8 years) but Pearses and Brigit's seem the most likely.
The gap between these top 2 and the remainder is quite large, while Boyle, Roscommon Gaels and Clan would give either team plenty to think about, it would be seen as an almighty upset if they were to turn over both in a single championship campaign.
As for the remaining teams, the new rules might suit some of them (Faithleachs, Elphin, Oran etc) but the sheer strength and depth of both Pearses and Brigit's will be too much. However, it can also be seen as a positive that the Roscommon Champions are always going to be huge contenders in the latter stages of the Connaught and the All Ireland club series . Other counties don't have that luck.
Hopefully some good, high scoring quality games where the best players in our county can let the shackles off after a disappointing inter county campaign.

While we are in D1, competition is very high there and unless the team hits the ground running, could be a long campaign. Therefore unless there is Connacht success, you are looking at best a number 3 seeding next year. On paper, this year, Kerry would have been top choice to advance, the other two from Cork, Meath and Roscommon, one would have thought that there was not a lot between the 3 counties. Hindsight is great now.

Manager odds are a real stab in the dark stuff, sure wasn't Shane Curran,Pat Flanagan short odds in the past and were they ever seriously considered by the Roscommon county board?
Dessie Dolan with Westmeath in the championship was played 8 lost 7, drew 1. He needed two attempts to get Westmeath promoted out of Division 3. If Dublin don't opt for Ger Brennan then he could be option and better option than Dessie Dolan.
Forwards coach is probably a priority going by the amount of games Roscommon shooting efficiency i Has been 50% and under in matches.
