Replying To Trump2020:  "4 Primary Schools??? Most Parishes are luck to have 2!!!"
Kilreekill N.S, Aughrim N.S, Kilconnell N.S and Cappataggle N.S are all feeders to Cappataggle GAA Club and as the saying goes Primary School are the grass roots to the future of the Club. So they can't really use the sympathy card of being a "small rural parish" when one takes into consideration the massive parish area to pluck and pick from!!

Really looking forward to the final. New champions of Galway awaits. How good has it been to have hurling back in athenry all year. The atmosphere for the semis was brilliant. Galway gaa take note. Cappy did extremely well last Saturday. Very impressive. Loughrea looked like winning throughout without getting out of 4th gear. Interesting final to come

Stats......last 4 meetings between Loughrea v Cappataggle is 2 draws and 1pt win each.
An epic East Galway Co. Final surly awaits us in front of between 8000 - 10000 at a hopping Kenny Park!
The amount of neutrals from East Galway going will be unreal......every man woman and child from the divisional region will want to see this one with I'd expect the majority of East Galwegins rooting for Cappy!!
Kenny Park will be bouncing with atmosphere......wonder will the Intermediate Final between East Galways Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry v Kinvara be the curtain raiser?

The intermediate final is this weekend coming so the senior will be a stand-alone game. Athenry will be rammed for the senior final.

It worked out well that the Intermediate/Senior Finals are on separate weekends.

The appetite for Club Hurling in Galway is huge. I would imagine there will be a bumper crowds for both games

Could you be assured of getting a ticket for this one? I'd be intending on flying home for the senior final but would have to book the flights before having a ticket...

Just saw the article of Shane O Donnell talking about GAAGo using his image to promote their brand. I have to say I 100% agree with him. GAAGo is a for-profit organization, using anyone's image rights to make money without compensation is not right. The likes of Joe Canning in his day was promoted heavily without the man making a cent from it (image of tickets, game day programs, ads for games etc, even Supermacs). In the US College athletes (amateurs) were able to win a case for their image rights from game companies (EA Sports) and the universities themselves who were making millions without paying them a cent. Its time the players in the GAA are able to get some compensation if others are making $$$ off their images.

Interesting stat from the maroon and white pod. Not one player from the starting 15s that won on Saturday played with Galway this year.

Would the pick of Loughrea and cappy beat the 15 that played for Galway in the last championship match this year???

The way the county team played in this year's championship -- the answer to your question may well be yes.
But that doesnt mean that "the pick of them" would do any better over a full championship season. Big difference between playing well at club level and playing well at county level.

Looking at both teams, I think no more than about 5 or 6 will make it onto the county panel next year AND be in with a strong chance of nailing down regular game time for the championship. Taking Cappy first, obviously Niall and Liam Collins have very strong claims , Oisin Finn I expect will be given a decent trial , and probably the Mannion brothers (but both have been on the panel before and havent forced their way on the team to the extent of being undroppable). I may be mistaken here but I think most of the rest are a long time on the go and are unlikely to get a county call-up at this stage of their careers. Similarly Loughrea are a fairly seasoned bunch. Tiernan Killeen imo is a cert to be given a lot of game time next year, Anthony Burns and S. O'Brien will probably get call ups and then there's the injured pair Martin McManus and Jamie Ryan (but neither of those have made the breakthrough since joining the panel and Jamie is near 30 now).

I know I have named more than 5 or 6 here and there's probably a couple I've left out but when it is all sifted down I dont think there will be that many coming through from the county finalists and featuring in the Leinster championship next year.

There is a big difference between playing well at club Vs county level, and we have seen that the last few years from Galway. Maybe we should start picking the lads that are playing well at club level and especially competing in senior club finals consistently.

I was particularly impressed by the cappy centre back, full back and no. 5. Big strong lads that can hurl at high intensity. As you mentioned the collins', mannions and Finn.

On the Loughrea side I agree with Killeen, but you mentioned o brien and left out k hanrahan at corner back who has been top notch the last few years, Shane Morgan at 6 has been dominating games (3 all Ireland minors in a row if I remember) Darren shaughnessy who was joint captain of the u20s. They all are worthy of Galway call ups based on club performances.
Something has to change in Galway mentality. I was similarly impressed by the Fleming's of eyrecourt the last day, very good hurlers.

Assuming everyone is fit and available the pick of Loughrea and Cappataggle wouldn't keep it pucked out to the county side

No disrespect intended here but club and IC are practically different sports at this stage

No club team in the country would beat any of the Leinster or Munster Championship county teams

We've disagreed about certain issues regarding money in respect of the GAA previously but I agree 100% with you on this occasion

Almost every club has a player(s) in it who have been consistently excellent at 'club level' for years but would look like a fish up a tree at county level. This idea of only picking lads 'playing well at club level' is a terrible idea in reality, and if you want to go down the road of excluding players from the swathes of clubs who aren't 'competing in senior club finals consistently' you'd soon find out how truly dreadful an idea it actually is.

Toms won 6 in a row and are the reigning All Ireland Champions, but how many of those excellent club players were able to establish a consistent presence in a Galway team that wasn't exactly setting the world alight for much of that period?

I'd imagine there are a bunch of new faces that will be given a chance to make the panel early next year with the likes of Cillian Whelan, Cillian Trayers, Niall Collins, Shane Morgan, Rory Burke, Dylan Dunne, Anthony Byrnes and then you will have players returning to the panel or those who got little game time with Shefflin like Tiernan Killeen, Liam Collins, TJ Brennan, Alex Connaire and Sean Loftus.

Probably a year away from Sean Murphy, Jason Rabbitte and Aaron Niland going up to senior - makes more sense to give them the year at schools hurling and u20.
