Replying To Alwaysencourage:  "Honestly most clubs are looking just to win a county final and not beyond that. The more hurling and games teams get the better. Most of these lads have been training since early in the year and at least preliminary Q/F give them an extra game.We don't have provincial club like football clubs so we afford to have extra weekend playing hurling in Galway."
But honestly my point is the Preliminary Quarter Finals are a waste of time because whoever finishes 3rd in their group most certainly isn't going to win the County Final.
So they get the extra game of a Preliminary Quarter Final where the success rate of a 3rd group placed team winning is almost 0%.

In the Quarter Finals Meelick-Eyrecourt, Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry, Kinvara and Carnmore are all seeded (Group winners)
I wouldn't fancy Killimor v Meelick-Eyrecourt or TAD but I would give them a 50/50 chance v Kinvara or Carnmore."
For a few different reasons I'd like to see Kinvara win it out, but wouldn't be unhappy to see TAD win it either.

I expect Clarinbridge to come through Ardrahan but they are under awful pressure in this game. Would be a disaster for them to go out in a preliminary quarter final. Didn't get going at all against Loughrea. They really need Shane Ryan and Aaron Niland in soon. Ardrahan will give them plenty with Glynn and Kennedy back.

Thomas' haven't played a stitch of hurling yet in the championship and I'm not a believer that they will just turn it on. Disciplinary issues in every game for them so far. They will beat a poor Craughwell side but a quarter final is likely as far as they will go considering they will play either Turlough, Sarsfields or Loughrea.

The other two are hard to call. Cappy have looked decent in spurts but they are very reliant on Niall Collins. I'll back them to beat Kilimordaly just about. Cashel haven't played well since the Oranmore game and shouldn't have got through really. I think Kilconieron can take them out here. They are strong enough in the backs to hold up Farragher, Thomas and Connolly and keep it a low scoring game. Whoever wins this is probably the weakest quarter finalist.

I'd be very surprised if Oranmore don't beat Gort. Too much quality on the field. Moycullen Mullagh is a toss up. Conor Dolphin might be good enough to swing it towards Mullagh. Kilimor are the only dangerous team in those intermediate games this weekend although I suspect it's inevitable that TAD are going to finally win it this year and probably win it fairly comfortably.

Same as saying the new style champions league is a waste of time, because 36 sides don't have a chance of winning it, nor do 16 or more of the 24 qualifiers. You'll still have 4 full houses in Celtic Park in the coming months, and at many other venues as well, and 3 or 4 TV channels discussing Celtic's qualification odds for the next three months.

It's a silly point you make, that teams who won't win the county final are wasting their time playing games in the competition. The vast majority of teams, in all sports worldwide, play their games without winning the competitions they're competing in.

My original point is......there is no need to be playing County Finals in bleek miserable November because we loose 4 weeks due to playing poxy unnecessary Preliminary Quarter Finals just to facilitate a 3rd group placed team.

100% Correct - it's madness.
Should be top two teams to quarter finals and if your not good enough to finish top two your only wasting your time and also the clubs money paying a trainer circa €100 a night for extra few weeks.

Weather often better these days in Sept/Oct/Nov than in Jun/July/August. This year no exception so far.

Also that Junior A,B,C,D,E,F is a calamity of a set up with two groups of 6 in each grade apart from Junior A!
It should be 16 teams with 4 groups of 4 in Junior A,B,C and D and top 2 from each group into Quarter Finals.

Sure only one team can win a competition. Its about keeping lads hurling. These have been training since start of year, why not give them extra game? And if county final is being played in Nov so what?Club final is in January so whoever wins County final needs to be able to play in wet cold weather.
