Replying To mintyfresh:  "Rubbish. There are plenty of separate topics to be talking about within a county not just generically "football" & "hurling". On the Westmeath page there were active threads on each different grade championship that was going on. Putting them all on one thread is ridiculous."
Start different threads for them all!

Replying To brian:  "They're based in Kells but theres absolutely no need for saying the above. And BTW Kells is most certainly not on the border. Its about as on the border as Killarney is to Cork..

Like all of you, I would agree that this is an awful decision and poorly executed. To just announce something like this and bang everything is gone is gone is beyond ridiculous. The county forums were great for having a chat about local issues, I know in Meath the talk about the Pairc Tailteann redevelopment has been very good, but outside of Meath how much would people care. I tried using boards for a while but its very disjointed and there's no flow to it and this was why i was always on HS.

Think the national forum has a place for discussing the intercounty game but this is a death knell for the fourm side of HS."
Think Kells is around 8 times closer to the border than Killarney Brian!

Replying To The_analyser:  "Totally agree. I rarely if ever post or even look at the national forums. For the mods to get rid of the county forums after all these years and without warning is wrong."
How is it wrong? It's a private company, they can do what they like. And they've obviously had meetings to decide that county forums weren't worth the hassle anymore. This isn't RTÉ, taxpayers money isn't involved and I'm sure margins are tight to be profitable. It isn't the end of the world, it will give more time to spend at other things. Or just have a roscommon 2021 thread posted on the national forum and work away on that. I don't see the problem at all.

I will miss the county forum now with the Championship in full flight too, it was a great place to discuss and get info on local issues,
the National Forum is good too but I don't see why you can't close down the accounts of the WUM's with multiple accounts? can't be that hard to do.
Don't see how it's fair that Cavan and Meath still keep their county forums either.

Used to be regular contributor to my own county's forum.
Incredible decision which will very quickly translate into a collapse in traffic.

Doubt I will ever visit the site again.

awful decision, you are globalising the whole thing by making it all one, who is going to come in here anymore and discuss things like the westmeath shc or stuff like that. There were county forums that were quiet but there was a hell of a lot still v active examples were Limerick, Galway, Wexford, Clare, Westmeath, meath etc...i might not bother posting on hoganstand anymore now as the local county forums i did enjoy interacting with and viewing

What has that to do with anything. That is more idiotic than the admin's decision

I rarely contribute to county forums but have always enjoyed reading them, it gave me a good insight into the inner workings of other county championships, rivalries etc.
I'm sure admin have their reasons for doing this but I'm gutted they're gone.

Its 10km ( 6 miles) from whitegate cross in Cavan to Kells. I don't care if you're from Kells, Killarney or Kilkenny you're clearly wrong on this one, BTW Killarney is 23 km from the Cork border.

Yes it's a private company. And like any other private company, like the 1 I run, it won't stay in business very long if the customers get dissatisfied and go elsewhere.

Replying To marmalade_farmer:  "What other topics other than hurling and football are to be discussed on a gaa forum? Okay have a Westmeath rounders and handball thread also if it's needed"
You have county football, club football, different grades, underage, ladies, managerial appointments, sponsors, funding whose a good young prospect coming through etc and for many counties double that for hurling too.
Way too many topics to lump into one thread, posts will end up getting lost, very difficult to keep track, you can make a post and the reply will probably end up two pages over in the middle of a dozen other topics.

You'd be surprised at probably how little traffic the forum brings. Most come for the news stories I would wager.

Terrible idea admin, hopefully you have the common sense to restore the active county forums.
