Would agree up to a point, and I'd have no issue with them getting rid of whatever county forums hadn't been active lately. But me and several others were on here almost every day to post on the Wexford Forum, for example, and now it's suddenly been discontinued. Have had a look at the Meath forum, and have to say the Wexford one was at least as active as it, if not even more so. The move spearheaded by my fellow Wexford man Viking66 might prove to be a good one, but even still, if every county follows suit, might get tiresome scrolling through all the threads to find "Wexford Football 2021" (for example), if a couple of days happen to pass by with no post on it. Good man Gaelsboy if that was set up it would be great. The forum was great for Leitrim news and the stories from club scene.

I can see why you removed the red thumbs a while ago..

In fairness there may be 100 active posters here, some with multiple accounts posting. How would that be paying the website to run moderators on each one constantly. If half of those posters are running ad blockers then it isn't worth the sites while from an advertising point of view, and is probably a giant headache. Anyone considering setting up a new website would have to be prepared to monitor it constantly especially if posts aren't pre moderated like they are here. marmalade_farmer (Leitrim) - Posts: 94 - 30/09/2021 11:53:58 2383700 Link 0 |
I agree 100%. I saved a thread on the Kerry forum 2 weeks ago which was setup in 2009 and was entitled what the gaa will look like in 20 years, it was very interesting and funny and had contributions from posters from different counties and countries, our county forums were like time capsules, they were full of posts captured in time and now are all gone.

Not a good idea. Hoganstand local fora are good for local GAA news. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2565 - 30/09/2021 12:47:54 2383711 Link 0 |
Meath and Cavan GAA, with respect neither have one a senior title in years, ok the Meath women won. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2565 - 30/09/2021 12:51:20 2383713 Link 2 |
They're based in Kells but theres absolutely no need for saying the above. And BTW Kells is most certainly not on the border. Its about as on the border as Killarney is to Cork.. Like all of you, I would agree that this is an awful decision and poorly executed. To just announce something like this and bang everything is gone is gone is beyond ridiculous. The county forums were great for having a chat about local issues, I know in Meath the talk about the Pairc Tailteann redevelopment has been very good, but outside of Meath how much would people care. I tried using boards for a while but its very disjointed and there's no flow to it and this was why i was always on HS. Think the national forum has a place for discussing the intercounty game but this is a death knell for the fourm side of HS. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 30/09/2021 12:53:32 2383714 Link 2 |
That's me probably out anyway. I really only used my own county forum. A national forum not really the place to discuss the happenings in the Galway intermediate hurling championship or the like. A real pity. Was great for catching up with local news.

You can already see that this decision is going to make a total mess of the forum. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 30/09/2021 12:57:22 2383717 Link 2 |
I don't always agree with you, but you're spot on Brian.

This is not an amalgamation. The GAA would let all interested parties know and plan for an amalgamation. Won't be too difficult now to manage resources when most posters will leave.

What two counties are being kept?

Totally agree. I rarely if ever post or even look at the national forums. For the mods to get rid of the county forums after all these years and without warning is wrong.

I'd call this self sabotage more than an amalgamation, you've essentially set a whole archive on fire which is unforgivable, would like to see the admins post on this thread to address the situation.

Cavan and Meath, the website is based in Kells not far from the county border.

Obviously our Fermanagh Co Board were complicit in this move otherwise our county forum would be still functioning and I would imagine its forum contributors such a macca999, erneboy, keshgfc, shotgun to name but a few will be furious. The Fermanagh forum enjoyed a significant viewership for a small county and many liked the club fixtures and results, and in English by the way, together with the follow up discussions. I'm wondering if the Fermanagh users will be allowed to open discussion threads specific to their county and club football?? Please respond administrator. Thank you. cillnaile. You might need a geography lesson, Kells is 6 miles from the Cavan/ Meath border.

Perfect response, Long time follower and recently a new poster. The Fermanagh forum was a great way to keep up with the ongoings in the county.
