Move To National Forum Only Model

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Think the nature of how this was done is so poor, and it seems as though the forums have just been deleted, the topics not even amalgamated in to the National forum? What is there was a post I wanted to respond to on the Donegal forum, do I have to start a new topic now and say "ATTN: Lockjaw - I agree with your last post but what do you think of this young fella coming in to our half backs"???

The majority of discussion will be in one place, through the national forum where any topics can be discussed. There has been a growing trend towards this in recent years and with all messages individually moderated, it allows us to focus our resources more efficiently.
It's a big change, but where would the GAA world be without amalgamations?"
This is nonsense Admin. Why have the 2 chosen county forums that will be remaining been chosen? The Wexford forum has numerous posters who dont post nationally. Our club championship thread has nearly 3000 posts and the football championship has barely started. Are you sure this is of any interest to posters in Clare and Donegal?

I think you need to strongly reassess this decision. The only reason I ever used the site was to view the forum for my county and looks like I am not alone.

We had plenty of good discussions on a variety of different topics.

I see you've retained Meath and Cavan only. Why? The Wexford forum was every bit as active as those two."
We can move our forum here. If all the posters from other counties do the same Admin will surely realise what a daft idea having 1 National forum is!

Just set up threads with each county here e.g Leitrim 2022, Dublin 2022 etc and discuss all matters relating to the county within that one thread. It makes sense to consolidate it. And not have fifty million threads on one county forum with maybe five posts in a thread. It will flow better. But then you'll have the eternal battle between hurling and football posters in that thread I suppose, in that case name it Cork Football and have another thread Cork hurling/camogie etc

I would love to think that the decision would be reversed or at the least the most active forums reinstated.

Or has the fears and warnings of some come to fruition- have the wums won?"
I can't understand why the Kerry forum was closed. It was very active, informative and interesting. I always liked visiting it. Which two are left, btw?

I have been a regular reader of the Donegal forum for many years without contributing much. It's the only reason I ever go on to Hoganstand. I don't see any point in the site without the county forums. It's your USP! If you don't reverse this decision I'd say you're days are numbered

I really am going to miss the discussion (and the borderline sledging on occasion) of all things Wexford. Having it amid the national forum won't have the same resonance.

The timing, and especially lack of prior announcement, was astonishingly bad though.

A perfectly good conversation was being held on the Leitrim forum about the next manager ... and all of a sudden all's gone.... can't even go back to review the posts... a daft decision to remove the county forums WITHOUT NOTICE!

Expect your website traffic to dwindle now that me and many others don't drop on for 5 minutes of escapism from our working lives! My employer will be delighted with this decision though!
My trip was to this site was the Wexford page/forum, then a few minutes on the national forum if I had time.
Slán. It has been good arguing all things Wexford GAA and GAA with everybody. I'm off to shave the tash.

Replying To TheHermit:  "Disgraceful, esp considering you gave posters absoultely no warning this was due to happen before the county forums were deleted sometime yesterday afternoon. Yesterday morning the Kerry forum was as active as ever. Everyday there are multiple posters on there like myself posting there. In fact it is far more active then the two county forums you have left operating.

Most of the posters on the Kerry forum, like myself, have been posting on it for 8,9,10+ years. We kept it alive and going all that time. The fact you couldn't even have the decency to tell us in advance and let us say goodbye to each other or try and find another home is shocking. A lot of long time posters would have developed friendships etc over the years.

I personally made the decision to leave the main forum at the start of 2021. Now the Kerry forum is gone I'll be moving on completely.

So best of luck to (most) posters on here."
Totally agree Hermit, there is a Cohort of Kerry posters who, although we've never met have become a virtual group of friends, the two Gerry's, K'boy , yourself etc it's sad to think that it's the end of an era.

Cavan and Meath - Google HS . Based on the Cavan Meath border

To be honest I don't even mind amalgamating or making changes to the forum structures, but this would have been the last thing I'd have done haha. If you amalgamate, at least bring all threads in to one place so discussions can continue if they want to. Improve things like the search function in the forum so that people can find the threads they want easily. Don't have the forum suddenly cut off after 20 pages or whatever it is.

It's all a bit haphazard and not thought out at all. I know forum layout etc. has been discussed on here before (I'm sure that Limerick poster will have a field day with this) and people talk about the sponsors and volunteers etc etc etc., but I really think Hoganstand is the worst laid out forum I've ever been on and I only come here to chat Donegal football and then I'll post on the national forum when the intercounty season is going. I like nipping in to other county forums to see the internal discussions and maybe post a message direct to those supporters that might get lost in the national chat etc. If the admins/owners of the site don't actually want the forum and are more interested in the news stories etc., just close the forum off and be done with it.

I'm also disappointed as the Limerick forum was a very active and lively one. I'm not so sure that I'm as comfortable making brazen statements about the Limerick hurling team on a national forum as opposed to one that existed to allow Limerick fans to talk to each other about Limerick. I'm not really bothered about what other counties think of us. I enjoyed the local banter which was frequently very informed. I know that there was zero activity on some of the other counties sites but I'll certainly miss the Limerick one

A very poor decision. The forum's are what keep the site going because the articles definitely aren't. It's a pity because a lot of people in counties like a good chat about club football and it was the only platform for many to talk about these matters. The fact you have kept two counties forums shows that you aren't against the concept but by keeping these two and disregarding the rest shows terrible bias on Hogan Stands part.

I think its a poor decision and not well thought out, county forums are of most interest to people I think and not the national forum, Personally for me the county forum was the main reason I visited Hoganstand and have been a member for a few years now.
