Eilish O’Dowd made a sensational start to her AFLW career by scoring a goal after only 15 seconds of the GWS Giants’ opening round win over Western Bulldogs yesterday.
The Leitrim native, who won an All-Ireland senior medal after transferring to Na Fianna and Dublin last year, won possession from the tap before racing through the middle and kicking between the posts for the fastest-ever goal in AFLW history.
The new Giants recruit added a second goal before half-time to help her side to an emphatic 72-9 victory.
Not to be outdone, Offaly’s Kate Kenny also shot a goal on her AFLW debut for Geelong in a 40-42 loss to Melbourne.
