I would be happy to see a Roscommon man get the job. Mark Dowd was on FOD's minor management team in 2006. He managed Roscommon to an U21 Connacht title in 2015. We lost the All Ireland semi final to Tyrone. Unluckily lost the 2016 Connacht U21 Final in the dying minutes to Mayo under Dowd. He has been a selector for the senior team. As others have posted, it'll be about the backroom team. I don't know who he'd bring with him. Would he have many contacts outside Roscommon. Not sure about that.

Lots of experience going back as coach with the 2006 Minor All-Ireland winning team. Manager with the U21s that really should have won back to back Connacht titles (we left the 2016 title behind us in Markievicz Park) Coach when we won Connacht senior titles in 2010,2019 and was coach or manager with Strokestown 2022 Ballaghaderreen 2012 which was two county titles won against the odds. Talk that John Rogers will be with him, though that would be a loss Shane Morans U17 management team. Also rumours about Gerry McGowan who's currently coaching Corofin. He was with us for one year previously, 2023 with the highlights of finishing 3rd in Div 1, beating Mayo in McHale Park in the championship and drew with the eventual All-Ireland winners Dublin in Croke Park. Don't want to jump the gun in the fashion of what happened with Dublin and Declan Darcy, so it remians to be seen if the rumours are true. But on thinking about it, I don't think there is another Roscommon man that is more qualified apart from Fergie O'Donnell. He knows the club scene inside out. Has managed senior clubs in Ros and Mayo and won county titles with them. Involved in two Roscommon senior management teams? Involved in the 2006 minor management team. Did well with the u21s as manager. So he definitely has cut his teeth at all levels of the county set up. Seems like a very level headed likeable fella and I'd imagine has built up good relationships within the county. As has been said many times, will also depend on the quality of coaches he can bring on board. The managers roll is much more than coaching now, a lot seems to be logistics, setting the culture and philosophy, knitting the coaching and strategy together. Given Roscommon's lack of a COE and the hoops the county team must have to jump through for facilities, he'll know exactly the score on that front and will have the contacts as well for aquiring facilities.
