Three years on, do you regard Davy Burke as having been a success as Roscommon Manager.?

Really don't like this regarding Carrol. Even though he's form has dropped this year it'll likely be the grain of rice that'll tip A really strong Brigids side to the county title and probably Connacht. Between one of Kilbrides players going medal hunting to the Gaels and the Carrol development , don't like where this is leading.

He had periods of success as in finishing 3rd in Div 1 in year 1 when tipped for relegation. Reaching the last 8 of the championship in year 2 when expected to make a round 12 exit and promoted back to Div 1 in year 3 that was probably expected but still a Div 2 that we now know includes two teams that has reached the last 8 of the championship and two others went down fighting in their last 12 ties last weekend. What the Roscommon county board regard as a success is that matters though. If success for them was reaching another All Ireland Quarter final this summer then he's a goner whenever the review is held, However they may have some long or longer term view in place or they can't find or lure any suitable replacement at this moment then Davy Burke could well be given one further year. The ball is in the county boards court. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3671 - 27/06/2025 02:29:05 2621400 Link 0 |
Sometimes a team can be giving decent performances but not getting the results. However Ros Seniors were not giving decent performances since the League match in De Páirc. We seemed mired in the oul style pre 2025 football. Hard to make a case for reappointing Davy. However the lack of any comment from Davy or Co Board suggests their first choice is to reappoint him. There is no case for reappointing Davy Burke. None if you have any expectations at all of Roscommon as a serious football force. The Roscommon County Board don't have to be as ruthless as the Mayo County Board( classless and tasteless by them) but Burke's Term is up and it should be goodbye and farewell over the next few weeks.

Do they have to get the clubs to vote on a reappointment? Maybe they waiting on feedback from players as well.

Going to clubs/delegates is the normal procedure our neighbours Mayo seem to overshoot the runaway. Our county board were willing to keep McStay and Cunningham on for another year or two but both to the surprise of the county board stepped down, McStay said he was retiring from management then and the manner of the Mayo send off I bet he wished he did now. Davy Burkes three year term is up now so it's up to the board and delegates to weigh up where we are and where we want to go. Their decision will show what ambitions they have. Should also we noted that we have already entered transitional period, lads in their 30s their best days are behind them and some will now retire. A number of young players have been given their debuts with many more to follow. Some will struggle to make the step a natural process but over the next 3/5 we'll need a shrewd management team in place to guide them along. Davy Burke with his different coaches every year is not that man IMO. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4095 - 27/06/2025 14:45:02 2621533 Link 2 |
I was just reading there Davy Burke's record as Roscommon Manager. It makes for grim reading. Nine wins from 22 League games and just five victories in 17 championship games. It's very poor and I don't understand how anybody comes on here saying otherwise.

It all depends on what the Roscommon county board think. They might see green shoots within those defeats, promotion back to Division 1 might be enough to convince them. He got most of the players that opted out to opt in this year. How many years was McManus,Killoran away before returning for example? McGeeneys win loss record in his first three years with Armagh wasn't good either and his 4th year they were knocked out of the championship by Roscommon in that high scoring game in Portlaoise. Key to his success was given time to build a panel and for all the best players to give full commitment. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3671 - 27/06/2025 15:42:26 2621559 Link 0 |
Cunningham's Championship record was 5 wins from 11, one of the 5 a successful Connacht Final win. It took Cunningham from the Clare defeat around 10/12 June to 4/5 August to announce he didn't want reappointing. The Co Board top table might be happy to reappoint Davy but I'd say players, Clubs and supporters would not share that view.
