The 16 weakest teams entered it.
2 of them reached the Final.
Probably more adults playing Gaelic football in your County than in Limerick where Hurling, Rugger and Soccer hold sway.

Wicklow are building a decent team so hopefully McConville for at least another year"
My sentiments exactly. I'm not too sure if the manager will stay. Maybe he thinks he can do no more with them. But he has built up a fair squad. Mostly early to mid twenties. Probably short a few players yet and someone needs to work an oracle on their shooting. Still, I've seen to many Wicklow false dawns to get carried away yet.

Rumours that Ros CB have McConville/Dolan on the short list if Davy isn't reappointed .

I will be surprised if Oisin stays really and the very best of luck to him if he doesn't. He has done Trojan work with this young group. Still in Div 4 but performing like a team from a higher Div. He was talking a lot on radio about his young family and how the long commute to Wicklow is impacting them. At the end of the day, family has to come first. I'm not sure either what the commute to Roscommon would be.

I recommend Cake for Roscommon!!

Seriously it's been well known for a while McConville was in his final year with Wicklow. He wants the Armagh job but regardless of how this year pans out I'm sure Geezer will still be there next year so McConville will need to keep in contention by staying in management somewhere. Sligo a possibility for him too I'd say. And maybe Antrim if McEntee walks or is pushed. Wicklow had their eye on Joe Murphy for next season I'm very reliably informed but thanks to Cake's implosion Carlow got the chance to move earlier than anyone expected, thankfully. The merry go round probably won't start for a few months. I wouldn't be surprised if McNulty was tempted away from Leix. He'll know he's too good for that lot and he's another who'll fancy the Armagh job but needs to be managing somewhere he can show progress.

Well if ever Kildare needed a reality check as to their level certainly yesterday would have done the trick. Was a very poor game for a neutral to watch and you can't blame the conditions totally for it. They are the form team for the TC but wouldn't be one bit surprised if Limerick pipped them. Maybe JP will give the footballers the same treatment as the hurlers have got seeing as they're out of that contest!

Semi-finals are there to be won. The manner is less important than the result especially in Kildare's case as we needed to stop the rot over our recent inability to win there.

I think that reality check came last year after losing all 7 league games. . . .

Limerick are just as much a form team in this years competition; 3 good wins over Wicklow, Wexford and Westmeath; they'll rightfully fancy their chances against a 4th Leinster team.

In 2008 we played a similarly poor game in the last 22 of the championship. We were told that was our "level". Two years later the width of a crossbar and a square ball denied us a place in the All-Ireland Final. This young team, including a number of All-Ireland winners are only at the beginning of their journey

Ye were also a Division 1 team that year. Kildare have fallen well down the ladder since then. It takes time but a county with the resources at its disposal such as Kildare and as you mention All Ireland success at underage should be walking the TC.

The finals so far in the Tailteann cup

2022 - Westmeath 3rd in Div 3 beat Cavan 1st in Div 4

2023 - Meath 6th in Div 2 beat Down 3rd in Div 3

2024 - Down 1st in Div 3 beat Laois 1st in Div 4

2025 - Kildare Div 3 runners up expected to beat Limerick Div 4 winners.

How do we feel now into 4th year of the Tailteann cup a success or not? I think like the main championship it needs a few tweaks. Don't think it was right that a 6th place Div 2 team should be playing in it like we got in 2022.

3 Div 4 teams reaching finals shows there is not a gap wide enough for a 3rd tier. Case to be made that 7th,8th in Div 2 and the Div 3 champions shouldn't play in the Tailteann cup. If you aren't good enough to reach your own provincial final or win a Div 3 league title then you shouldn't have much complaints about playing in a 2nd tier competition.

We were related to division 2 that year and had a miserable championship record the previous 5 years. Two years ago we ran Dublin to 2 points in Croke Park in a game we should have won and but for dodgy refereeing against Monaghan would have beat them. The last year of Glenn Ryan's tenure did severe damage. Not as far off as some makes us out to be. Well we are unbeaten so far in the the Tailteann cup and are now in the final so can't do much more than that until the the final
