Joe murphy will be a great addition he knows Carlow GAA and will be able to get rid of some deadwood from inter and junior clubs who are just not up to it at the moment. He will also entice some players who have opted out in recent years, I think previous managers have been poor and a bad fit but we have someone native and succesful who is good and tough which is what we need. I think this year might be a bit of a write off but very hopeful for next year.

I think that would be a backward step if true. What age is he now - 35? Time has moved on - Paddy Quirke & Willie Quinlan shouldn't be called up either.

Agree, this can only be trolling exercise. Any player good enough should be in consideration irrespective of club etc in all codes or levels. Period.

For years the observation was it was harder get off the county team than get on it such was the reluctance of lads to commit. Indeed the culture of bar stool criticism and knocking (is?) was such that involvement with county teams at any level was seen as toxic by way of playing, mentoring, coaching, fundraising etc. Certainly the county board's lack of dynamism and ambition did not help, and progressive people who could assist in some small way turned to their clubs or other interests.

I think it has improved somewhat, but there is a way to travel yet. If our flagship teams are performing well, you would be hopeful this could be a positive catalyst.

Hope the footballers play well and give their best performance if the year on Sunday

It's a tall order to turn over.Meath but hope springs eternal !
Joe Murphy does know the Carlow scene. He has plenty of experience as a manager with Carlow clubs and Naas.
It will be a step up for him managing a county squad.
I think he will get massive buy in from the players.
They need someone who believes in them and gives them the confidence to play to their best

Whether Joe has that ability - it is hard to say at this stage.

U-20's outclassed tonight against a Kildare team that may very possibly be the all Ireland champions this year but our lads fought hard, gave their all and put up a respectable score 0-18 points. Hard to ask for more as they were simply outclassed.

Unlucky tonight the way the other result went. Leix and Wexford drew. A Leix win and if we beat them next week we'd very likely get through to the quarters which would be a fair achievement but that draw means we can't now qualify. Having seen us tonight and last week I'd say we've every chance of beating Leix, but now they have something to play for as a win might put them through whereas it's now a dead rubber for us. We might do ok in the Andrew Corden cup though which follows.

I don't think either would be huge additions to be fair but I'd rather have them than not. I'm hoping though we'll see Joe stay in this job for the next few years and next year with him there we could see Jordan Morrissey and Seanie Bambrick back which would be huge boost if it happened and surely would put us in with a great chance of promotion. Can't expect much next Sunday IMO, but hopefully we'll get a win or two in the TC, it's as much as we can hope for from this season I think.

Kildare are in serious form at under 20 level.
The other 3 teams seem to be at the same level...Carlow Laois and Wexford.
Carlow lost by 20 points tonight even scoring 0.18.
Laois lost by 21 points last week only scoring 0.6

Joe Murphy a great appointment for the seniors.
He's a Carlow man, great success as a player, and as club manager with Old Leighlin, Eire Og and Naas. Hope he stays for a couple of years just like Turlo O Brien did. O Brien got buy in from all the players and gave us some great days.

Looking forward to league already next year.
Won't expect too much this year.......anything in 2025 for Murphy is a bonus

I have absolutely no doubt that the poster here is from a "Senior Club" but has never been within an inch of a first team and has spent their life in Junior C.

Don't be angry at good Inter and Junior players, be angry at yourself.
