Replying To The_analyser: "No place in your 22 for R Fallon, U Harney,D Ruane,C Heneghan etc?
10 senior panelists will be in Sigerson action from next week and if the likes of Daire Cregg, Ben O'Carroll are still involved with their college on Wednesday 22nd and again the following Wednesday in a Sigerson cup Quarter both could well be rested against Down," I think Fallon is going to be one of our most valuable players over the next number of years. Colm Neary is a player with massive potential and top quality defender so hopefully he can get back to his best. There can't be any excuses this year from anyone. It's our strongest panel in years and only McCormick missing really that id say was a certain starter. We have a great mix of youth and experience so imo this year they have to get promotion and really go for semi finals.

It's 6 years since we won the Connacht title. No stand out team around. Galway have lost two out of the last three All Ireland finals so it won't be easy for them to go again. Roscommon have a good mix of players so I'd be hopeful of promotion and of a good run in the championship. It's hard to believe that we haven't won a championship game in Croke Park since 1980 or reached a semi final since 1991. Time to turn those records around this year inspired by the statue of the great Jimmy Murray who lead Roscommon from obscurity to be the best team in the land.

We can't have any excuses this year regarding not having players available this season but as the saying goes games are not won on paper. My concern would be around defence and midfield, we have established defenders who are slowly on the decline. This league campaign we blood in more defenders. We will not have the comfort blanket of having everyone back now to protect defenders. Also certain players need to up their game and mgt need to play these players in proper positions.

I hope we have played a few more challenges as they'll be needed to get players up to speed with the new rules. Great to see that Davy has more or less a full hand to pick from this season. Eoin McCormack is a huge loss for sure but hopefully a few new younger lads can stick their hands up for his spot and push on. Roscommon are favourites to win Div 2 so hopefully the bookies are not wrong. Huge potential in this team and hopefully the addition of Mark Doran to the coaching set up can push this team on to great things. Looking forward to the Down game but it'll be a close game I feel. Hard to call seeing as it's the first game and we don't know how either team are going but I'll predict a 4 point win for Ros. Ros Comáin abú

Daire Cregg who turned down a move to Australia talking about how he always wanted to wear the Roscommon jersey. He's also talking about Roscommon aiming to win the All Ireland. It's great to see that sort of ambition. With the new rules, the championship will be very open this year. Roscommon need to aim high. I think we can have a big year.

My prediction is if Roscommon get the Fullback line right and get some luck with injuries we will go along way. I believe that we have our best squad in the last 20 years, serious experience throughout the team. My biggest question mark is over the mgmt team ability to mgmt such a squad. I can't remember when we had so many good forwards to pick from. Some big decisions will need to be made like will do we keep playing Brian Stack at FB or play Conor Daly, or are there other options at no3? Brian is brilliant player at no6. Players i can see having very big seasons and need to start to be leaders in the team are Fallon, McKeon, Nolan and Ronan Daly, very talented players that need to show their true potential as they can be as good as the best that's around. Other players like Doyle and Heneghan need a bit of luck injuries and start establishing themselves. Big decisions will need to be made on the right midfield combinations, have we alternative options at no6, can the young lads brought into the squad challenge for starting places? Over the last 10 years we have been at best a 6 to 12 rated team in the country, this year i believe we can cause a few surprises later in the summer. Individual player Prediction of Kieran Murtagh getting an all-star. Exciting times ahead.

What is Roscommon's best available starting lineup come championship time. And I'd say to Eoin McCormack, Come back. There could be a second statue in the Green in Knockcroghery next Christmas.!

Hopefully win D2 and Connacht and give the AI a good rattle.

Replying To eoinog: "What year were ye a 6 ?" Sligo are definitely on the up as well. Hope ye can rattle Mayo in the Connacht championship. Coolera Strandhill in action today. Best of luck to them. Galway are going for 4 Connacht titles in a row. I don't think they'll do it whether it's Roscommon, Mayo or Sligo who stops them but I think Galway will be beaten in Connacht this year.

Replying To Seanfanbocht: "2019 in Championship. 2023 were 3rd in NFL." 2019 would probably be the last time Roscommon was ranked as top 6 championship team. Had reached the last eight of championship for three years in a row and won 2019 Connacht championship by beating Mayo and Galway in their home patch. Would it be right to say Covid came at the wrong time to knock things back?
