Eleven-year-old schoolboy Timothy 'Tim' Ross from Riverpark, Moate tragically lost his life when he was involved in a road traffic accident while cycling to St Manchan's NS, Tubber on Thursday morning, September 1st, 2016. As a mark of respect, all GAA activities in the local club were suspended that weekend. As his funeral cortege made its way through the centre of Moate on the Saturday, Guards of Honour were provided by Moate All-Whites, AC Celtic, ADSL Academy and Midland Warriors - all teams that the talented young boy had represented with distinction. During the service, jerseys were presented reflecting Tim's deep passion for sport. 

The oldest of three children,Tim was one of Moate GAA's brightest prospects. From the time he first started playing with the All-Whites as a six-year-old, he was bigger than the other children and therefore didn't look out of place when he lined out for the U14s on a few occasions last year.

On the weekend before he died, the lovable youngster had played full back in an U12 tournament organised by the St. Loman's club in Mullingar which involved teams from all over the country. Moate battled their way to the final with wins over Maynooth, Edenderry, Ballyboden St. Enda's and Clann na nGael (Roscommon) before eventually losing to Salthill/Knocknacarra.
