Former Delvin club President Harry Barry passed away on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at the age of 93. Harry was one of the last surviving members of Delvin's most-recent senior championship winning team of 1953. He won senior championship medals with Delvin in 1949,1950,1951 and 1953 and continued to be a great supporter of the club over the years, with the famous Barry Cup contested by some of Ireland's top hurling clubs throughout the '80s and '90s. 

Harry immersed himself in Westmeath and Delvin hurling all his life. He was on the team that garnered junior honours in 1943 as well as the club's only Feis Cup winning side four years later. He lined out at midfield in the finals against Ringtown and Collinstown as the famous SHC three-in-a-row was completed and was centre half back for both games as Collinstown were ousted at the second attempt in the 1953 decider. A dedicated 'Valley' man, Harry Barry is remembered and celebrated as a fearless and uncompromising hurler who stood out on Delvin's greatest-ever team. He also had a spell as a referee after hanging up his hurl.
