Bolger, Michael

A member of a family steeped in hurling tradition, Michael 'Mick' Bolger, Woodside, Castletown - Geoghegan passed away on Wednesday, May 24th, 2017. Affectionately known as 'Willie', Mick was a tremendous hurler who won five senior hurling championships with the Black & Amber alongside his brothers Paddy, Tommy and Stephen. A member of Castletown - Geoghegan's famous three-in-a-row team of 1956-58, he scored 1-3 in the 1957 final against Collinstown and 1-4 against Raharney in the 1964 decider. He also represented Westmeath at intercounty level during the 1960s and was one of the country's leading scorers in the golden era of Christy Ring, Jimmy Doyle, Eddie Keher and Jimmy Smith. Mick's sons also represented the club with distinction and he has grandsons on the present Castletown team. As a mark of respect, the club formed a Guard of Honour as his funeral cortege made its way to St. Michael's Church, Castletown Geoghegan.
