The wording was fine nothing wrong with it . The county board gave McStay and co ten days to go out on their own with dignity they refused . County board had no choice . Why has the door closed on us winning an all Ireland ? That's a pretty silly question . We've gone backwards under McStag and co . But we still have the players . Also have lots of talent coming up from under 20s who got to all Ireland semi this year so the door is hardly closed on winning Sam. We are actually one if the youngest teams in the country . Best days are actually still ahead sure look at Murphy back for Donegal .our oldest player is Aido but I'd say he will probably go now . Our average age is 23 so hardly best days are behind our guys don't know where you get your stats from . S1234 (Mayo) - Posts: 270 - 02/07/2025 07:10:08 2623045 Link 0 |
We can hopefully turn that to a positive next year Yew. A good manager can realise plenty of potential within the current squad and some changes to it with the new rules that we didn't exploit in 2025. Could be naive but would have thought that Liam McHale with his football playing and coaching career and some ideas from basketball tactics, attacking and defending 3 point zone, could have been a good man to have kept in the backroom team for the new rules. Not suggesting him as the new manager. People laugh at me for suggesting Cora as a selector but I think she'd bring a new perspective. We've dropped a bit in the standings so trying something a bit different can't be much worse than possibly making same mistakes again.

Connacht Telegraph seem to be saying McConville yer front runner. I'd imagine the Louth job in ways might be more attractive for him if he was struggling with the commute to Wicklow. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 237 - 02/07/2025 09:12:58 2623054 Link 0 |
Definitely. His wife is a Louth woman and he works in and coached the college team in Dundalk. Tony McEntee his former club and county teammates also linked with the job.

I wouldn't be going by what the Telegraph say…going by some of their past stories.l from that journalist. It's a pure click bait paper now which is sad to see for such a historic paper. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11679 - 02/07/2025 12:04:43 2623107 Link 1 |
The cycling of the ball back and forth around the 2 point arc is daft and leads on many occasions to ball loss. For some reason Mayo management seem to think that having club midfielders is more important than shooting forwards. It seems that the forwards are afraid to take a shot for fear of missing. We don't use the forward mark, O'Shea should be in the square causing havoc under the high ball but unfortunately he spends most of his time out the field. My hope is the new management team will be different but with the Co. Board we have I have my doubts cluichethar (Mayo) - Posts: 553 - 02/07/2025 15:53:56 2623192 Link 0 |
I think McHale left because he wasn't getting any input. I wouldn't mind seeing him back in some capacity.

A football brain is what's needed and for me it doesn't matter if it's Cora's brain or a man's brain but a brain. Could she be any worse than what has come before cluichethar (Mayo) - Posts: 553 - 02/07/2025 15:59:50 2623197 Link 0 |
The board will appoint someone they think they can control. County board members on the sidelines at big games, on the team bus and walking into team meetings should not be tolerated. It's a joke. When Ger Loughanne took over Clare he threw them off the team bus and whoever is the next Mayo manager needs to do the same. Their job it's administration not interference.

The average age of the Mayo starting 15 and the 20 players that featured against Donegal was 26. Mayo need to focus on bringing through a few of those U20s now which will take a few years before any of them become established players at that level. Need to forget about All Ireland talk for now and Try to reach the last 8 of the championship the next step under new management as last 12 and group stage exit this year and last year highlights where Mayo are at in this moment in time.

I am always amused at people complaining about the Co Board There is no dictatorship. It's the club delegates that each year vote at the convention that forms the Co executive. A general election is only every 5 years and the presidential election is every 7 years. Clubs have the opportunity every12 months to change the personal. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2159 - 03/07/2025 22:41:55 2623525 Link 0 |
Nobody taking about all Irelands in Mayo the past 3 years…it's a lazy stereotype from the outside that everyone thinks Mayo fans are planning all Ireland party's at the start of every year. Absolutely it's about bringing through the younger lads and if they are good enough throw them in. The Meath captain and vice captain are 22 and 21. They were in and won the Tailteann cup only two years ago so things can change quickly. Any team can be beaten on any given day but for anyone who witnessed the Cavan game such a performance can not be tolerated. Mayo should be making the quarters minimum. We have failed to do so the past two years. We can accept getting beat but the style of play and manner of defeat (making the same mistakes over and over again) can not be accepted. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11679 - 03/07/2025 23:13:35 2623532 Link 0 |
