This is what happens when two to 3 years of minor teams are overlooked and not developed. Those lads should be only to start to reach their peak now at 24 25 26 years of age.

Imagine if a few of the stalwarts retired this year. Yous would be down with ourselves in the Joe Mc. I didn't realise yous were in such a bad place but remembered Shane O Neill left he put his opinions on paper where yous are at and the neglection of player pathway and development had to be addressed BaileCrann (Down) - Posts: 58 - 27/01/2025 10:27:18 2587838 Link 1 |
On an optimistic note........ we were shocking in early days of 2017! Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1900 - 27/01/2025 10:28:33 2587839 Link 1 |
This has been coming. A steady decline particularly after they blew the load in the 2021 league and fell over themselves in championship. Got up through fear to run limerick close in 2022. Brought nobody through who's good except Darren Morrissey and Cianan Fahy. MinorChamp_09 (Galway) - Posts: 1 - 27/01/2025 11:22:57 2587850 Link 1 |
It was an awful performance really. Looked seriously outmatched physically. They are nice hurlers, but unfortunately O'Shea, Rory Burke, Liam Collins, Garvey looked miles off it. i don't think TJ Brennan is good enough and Tom Monahan is too easy bullied. The Eanna Murphy experiment should be over for good now, despite two excellent saves, his distribution is awful and it's a non-runner if your back line can't break tackles to progress the ball. There is no solid evidence whatsoever that 'we have the forwards if they get the service' at this stage either. We need a new team, and we'll need good players to build a good team, and at least some great players to build a great team.

This is on the money with analysis. Gearoid loughnane should get a shot between the posts. He was excellent for Loughrea all year and conceded the fewest goals. His distribution is spot on also. My back 6 would be daithi at 3 flanked by grealish and morrisey. Cooney at 6 flanked by Morgan and mannion. BigBàsMan (Galway) - Posts: 75 - 27/01/2025 12:53:54 2587879 Link 0 |
Kevin cooney, Conor Whelan, Declan McLaughlin, Gavin lee, tiernan Killeen, Cathal mannion are all good enough to do damage. Maybe not win an all Ireland but that is where we are at now

There is a difference between club hurling and intercounty hurling. The question you should be asking is what can the Loughrea lads (and Hanrahan) do to not get dropped off an intercounty panel in January. Obviously he was having a tough time in training and wasn't up to the level. Kinvara (Galway) - Posts: 187 - 27/01/2025 12:56:07 2587882 Link 0 |
Will you stop raving. "A hard time in training" BS. He was immaculate all the Galway club championship and in the Leinster final. How anyone can argue that Sean Murphy is ahead of hanrahan is beyond me. Loughrea lads have always been treated shite by county set ups. What did burns get at the weekend 5 mins at the end? Top scorer in the championship. Nice to see John Fleming in. Ignored by previous set ups for years

I think Murphy is in there because he's one to keep around for a couple of years down the line. He looks very tidy but is obviously far off it physically, I don't think anyone would argue with that With regards to Loughrea players, I never subscribe to that sort of talk. Loughrea have nice handy hurlers but a lot of them seem to drop off after getting a shot in the Walsh Cup or league as it is now. That would suggest to me that other lads are giving them a tough time in training. The Galway management are trying to win, they will pick the lads who are up to scratch Agreed it is good to see Fleming in. He has had a tough time with injuries but I think he's worth having around Kinvara (Galway) - Posts: 187 - 27/01/2025 14:44:49 2587935 Link 0 |
What I witnessed on Sunday was an embarrassment. Pay €20 to watch that. Management showing favouritism already to their own club men. 5 started a challenge from their last weekend. Christy Ring here we come. Armchairreporter (Galway) - Posts: 84 - 27/01/2025 17:31:59 2588000 Link 1 |
We had 4 little light ladeens on the starting team on Sunday. You can't carry that amount of small lads in modern intercounty. That's almost a third of the starting team. They were just getting constantly horsed off the ball. Granted the bog of a pitch didn't help them. Not to mention a 3 and a 6 who were struggling for pace. No need for the hysterical overreaction. It was about what I expected to be honest. People complained that Shefflin stuck with some older lads for too long and that newer lads needed to be given more of an opportunity. Well that's what we're going to see, and they're going to take some bad beatings while we're at it. It's the only way to find out who has something to offer. Give lads their chance and see if they sink or swim. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2230 - 27/01/2025 17:50:26 2588009 Link 1 |
I think that you'll have to fall through the Joe McDonagh first before you can enter the Christy Ring. It's not a matter of choice.

I've no problem lads getting their chance. There is a few in there the last few years who are getting plenty of chances and a few more who are getting no chance. It's beginning to look like what club your from and you get a chance.

It baffles me every year why people think Galway are a serious hurling county 5 all Ireland in history of GAA and 4 of them were won by getting bye straight to semi final and one manger won 3, of them , galway are a county who play hurling but as far as all Ireland contender they not even in the discussion amongst the major teams ,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 976 - 27/01/2025 19:20:55 2588032 Link 1 |

No wonder we've gone for outside managers so often recently...as soon as there's a bad result a chorus goes up about the manager being too biased towards his own club. I do agree with you to some extent though. For the last several years it has struck me that Clarinbridge as a club are a microcosm of the county team....widely regarded as a talented bunch, in the conversation regarding championship honours, but lacking the grit, determination, and know how to actually go on and become champions. If you were going to war there wouldnt be too many Bridge lads you would want in the trenches beside you! PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1972 - 27/01/2025 20:59:22 2588055 Link 1 |
