Apologies Aibrean. I didn't read all your post above in reply to Clifford's stuntman audition question.

What? How many frees did Seanie O'Shea kick? How many were brought into the 21 from way out the field? Buy 'em? Kerry was getting free frees all day long!

Didn't have to buy them. They were handed out for free with 50m interest added and all.

He - DC - moves so fast it's hard to keep up with him. I thought he tends to over carry the ball, but nobody has mentioned that so I'm probably wrong. Doesn't take away from the fact that he is a powerful footballer. Possibly as good or better than I have seen, and I've been around a while.

Definitely not nonsense. Kerry got some handy calls yesterday and the ref even stopping play when Cork had a free to take away quick break aways was painfully to watch.

In saying that kerry were always going to win with 1 or 2 more gears there if needed.

I saw only the "highlights" last night so I cannot comment on the validity or otherwise of the Kerry frees. However, Kerry should forever be thankful to the referee in the earlier game v Cork (Munster semi-final) who allowed Sean O'Shea take at least ten steps before scoring the crucial goal that day.

KEvin McStay seemed to have gone the other way. Kerry getting all the 50/50 decisions in every game. Brendan Cawley would be very familar with Cian O'Neill and Jack O'Connor refereeing AV B games in their time as Kildare managers.

All we can ask for is a fair and balanced ref for the Final.

The free count is some games is mind boggling and can appear very one sided.
And not just kerry who have benefitted from it....
One All Ireland Final in particular comes to mind... ;o(

If DC is protected in the final, I hope MM is also.
Although both do seem to be well looked after in games by the officials.

We don't want the ref to be the main talking point after the Final.

What's this nonsense about a particular player being protected or looked after? Every player should be protected the same. The same rules apply to all. If the ref thinks he's being fouled he gets a free, if not he doesn't. It's really that simple.
If someone is repeatedly fouling he shouldn't be long getting a card and possibly another. If a player commits a dangerous foul, he gets a red.

Yes Kerry get nothing but soft frees. It is ridiculous. This is why they are in the All Ireland final. It needs to be investigated.

So you reckon Diarmuid Connolly was protected when playing for Dublin.????
The complete opposite occurred.

Cop on to yourself. Some players get more protection than others.
And certain high profile forwards from a lot of counties are not shy about handing out stuff but get away with it.

This happens in club games up and down the country also.

Not everyone is treated or protected the same at all.

I recall being at a particular club game in the Dublin SFC a couple of years ago, and the abuse Mossy got was horrific.
He got no protection at all that day.
A certain defender who was known to hand it out, got cleaned out of it late and dangerously also, but play waved on.

In an ideal world All players Should be protected by the officials - but we do not live in an ideal world.
And different referees apply their discretion a lot of the time and are not correct All of the time.

This isn't a new phenomenon....! And this is not isolated to one county, I might add.

Of course the better players are going to fouled more. Each time they're fouled, the ref should penalise the offending player. If he's doing it regularly, he shouldn't last very long on the pitch. Anyone trying to deliberately injure a player should be sanctioned more heavily.
If the opposition players weren't being sanctioned by the ref when fouling Mossy, then the ref wasn't doing his job. They wouldn't have lasted too long on the pitch if he had followed the rules, if he was being fouled that regularly.
That's not extra protection for Mossy or anyone else. That's applying the rules and applying them equally to everyone. No player should be more special in the eyes of the ref than any other. If they're fouled then apply the correct punishment, every time.

Who's Mossy? Is this thread not about inter county players?

If they do its because they have possession more often which will equate to more frees for the team who have the ball

There must be fifty or sixty Dublin players in last fifteen years with multiple All Ireland medals, let alone one
