Last couple of years we have converted a few forwards (Barry Nash, Kyle Hayes & Barry Murphy) to good effect, but wondering if any backs showing up in club games, best I have seen is Chris Thomas of Doon but think we need a few more

I feel we need a new number 5 and number 6 who could really challenge the status quo if we are to become contenders again. So far I haven't seen any exceptional candidates putting their hands up throughout the club championship to date, but their is still games to be played.

Replying To Yadse: "Doon look like a really well coached side. Knew what they were about, well set up, and with a good support cast (especially the two Thomases) to take the burden off the likes of Adam English Or maybe its because Patrickswell apart from the first quarter looked clueless - lamping high ball into Gillane seemed like their only tactic. Lynch was reduced to taking pot shots. The weakness of the current senior set up is that the Well only have to win 2 games to qualify for the knockouts but on this performance they will be struggling to stay up. Ballybrown will be looking forward to playing them
Adare v Mungret was a right good game. Adare a little unlucky to not win it. Kearney looked like a definite one for the future." While Adare are just surviving at Senior at the minute, they have some really really strong hurlers coming in the 16, 17, 18 and 19 year old bracket and will be strong again in the future.

Wishing him a speedy recovery. It looked like a very hard and dangerous hit, as he was bent over with his head exposed. I don't think it takes an injury to a GAA player to remind us that there are more serious things than sport. We all live in the real world and plenty face far more serious issues than this in their lives. Sport is a wonderful distraction from the issues of life at times and the GAA is far more than that of course, with it's massive community and social impact.

There's an awful lot of unnecessary hard hits going on in GAA that if they occurred on the street would go down as assault too

I feel like the current format for the Senior hurling doesn't lend itself to exciting group stages At least not in the top section where 4 out of 6 means not enough jeopardy And the top 2 from the second section don't seem ready to meet the top teams And it all feels a little stale I feel like an 8 team top section with 4 qualifying for playoffs and 1 or 2 up/down might be better Even if the tops teams (Doon, Na Piarsaigh, Kimallock are a bit ahead) I dont think there is much between the chasing pack (imagine a championship between Ahane, Adare, Ballybrown, Monaleen, Mungret, Kildimo, NCW, Patrickswell, Dromin Athlaca - that would be wide open) Alternatively have a seeded open draw for 2 groups of 6 with 2 or 3 out of each group making playoffs
That said the Patrickswell derby v Ballybrown should be an exciting game. The Well lose and they will be under real pressure make the playoffs or even stay up. Lose and its probably a head to head with Ahane with losers going down; Ballybrown win and they will certainly stay up and may have even done enough with 2 wins to qualify Ballybrown looked very poor v Doon but have had 2 weeks to get their act together. Patrickswell have looked poor in both their games and dont look like a well coached side even with their individual talent. They

But I suppose I probably would echo others who said we don't seem to have as much up and coming in the back division. At this stage you we think we would have at least 2 young lads properly challenging for spots there but there doesn't seem to be. Even to go for barry murphy ahead of fergal o connor isn't a good sign. By the way I have full faith that kiely and kinnerk are picking the best players it's just they don't seem to be stepping up back there.

folks, just watched highlights of limerick during the past season. we got to a munster final with a game in hand, though i can understand how we didnt push on v clare as we were thinking about a final, we hammered cork . not beaten in munster final , penalties , might as well toss a coin. dublin was a low point but that has been coming with a few years ,i think we thought nothing of the opposition. Caroline is badly needed in these type of situations. all in all we are far from finished, no team will want to meet us when on form, if kiely and kinnerk bring back a small bit of our hunger i think we will be very hard to beat next year.

Looks like the only things to be decided in senior hurling is who from Group 1 makes semis and quarters (NaP, Doon, Kilmallock, Ballybrown) and who goes down to Group 2 (loser of Ahane v the Well) Monaleen looking like they will go up, and look like they could stay up, and anybody could qualify with them Patrickswell looked poor v Ballybrown, the 2 goals and Ballybrown wides kept them in it. I fancy Ahane to put them down Ballybrown looked like a team with a lot of potential but without the confidence to really put it up to one of the now big 3 (sadly for the Well it's no longer the big 4)

Patrickswell have been very disappointing this year. They look like a spent force and will surely be relegated to Senior group B (and I feel they might not bounce back up)
Ahane are on a downward trend and only the fact that Patrickwell are so poor will paper over the cracks and give them another year in Senior group A. I do feel they will again be in trouble next year. Ballybrown have been very impressive. Their team is built around players form a number of successful underage teams and they are on a definite upwards trajectory and deserve to keep their place in Group A.
Monaleen have been building away quietly and will be promoted to the A group and they (like Ballybrown) look well placed to stay there.
Mungret are a bit like Monaleen, the next few years bolstered by sheer numbers and lots of underage intercounty talent making a breakthrough will see them rise. They could eventually replace Ahane in Group A.

Patrickswell poor this year but playing a sweeper in first 2 games didn't suit them and isn't Patrickswell hurling, a few injuries especially Gillane cost them v Bb. Monaleen the coming team in Limerick could name a semi-final this year.

The quality of their 3 HOTYs have papered over the cracks I dont know if its the quality of the squad or the quality of the coaching. They dont look like a well prepared or well coached team compared to the others especially Doon and NaP but also Kilmallock

Kiely & Kinnerk are winners. It will be very interesting to see if they do something different in 2026. The 2024 season carried a lot of pressure with 5 in a row. 2025, maybe we peaked too early destroying Cork in the Gaelic Grounds. The defeats we've suffered have all been by small margins so there's still loads to play for. In 2013 Kilkenny went down tamely in the championship and their players were just jaded after appearing in 7 all Ireland finals in a row, winning 6. A few headed to the Bruce Springsteen concert after losing their quarter final to Cork. Once they got the hunger back they followed up with the 2014 & 2015 titles. If we get that small % back, be it Caroline Currid or whoever, we still have a great chance. The Dublin footballers missed out in 2021 & 2022 after winning 6 in a row, got it together in 2023 and won the all Ireland. I think there may be one more in this team and if 2026 is John Kiely's last year with the team it would be a great way to bow out.

I'd have Limerick as my favourites for next year, before a ball is pucked. I haven't checked any odds, but I'd assume the bookies will have the same. I think Kiely needs to give more time and a greater role to the younger lads on the panel. There are some seriously talented players trying to break into the starting team. While some of the established lads aren't that old, they have a lot of hurling played and have been at the highest level year-on-year since 2018. They looked very leggy in Croke Park against Dublin, and it looked at times that it was the Dubs who had the extra man. Having some of the more senior players in reserve will give the bench a lot of depth.

However and I genuinely don't mean this to get others irked but what could stop that is how close the munster championship is. Very little from being 1st and 4th. If our lads were over in leinster at the moment , we could take it easy until the final and then go hard at it for the all ireland to peak. At the moment, you don't go at it with everything the first day out in munster you are immediately under pressure. In 2018 with a very young side we got better with more and more games now it's the opposite with an older team where you just want to peak for the big one with a handier run.. Sorry now, I genuinely do want the leinster championship to be a better standard and I have no doubt it will but not for a few years. And yes I am aware that 14 man Dublin beat limerick but yet again for 2 years in a row, 2 munster teams contested the final. In those 2 years cork and limerick have won munster while Clare and Tipp have won the all ireland! And waterford have been unlucky not to qualify. That sums up how tight and savage things are at the moment. That kilkenny team didn't have to face into that, I have no doubt there would have been 1 more if not 2 in our lads if they had less games.

But the thing is it's the toughness of the Munster Championship that got us to where we are (I know it's far from the only thing but it is a big contributor as it is to the strength of the other teams) And the relative weakness of Leinster that doesn't help their teams compete in the AI series The likes of Adam English, Aidan O Connor, Cathal Coughlan, Shane O Brien, Feargal O Connor need to come through Munster

Aside from 3/4 lads the senior team is very young and their underage is very strong. They should be strong favourites to beat Doon in the the premier minor final. They have great numbers and would be every bit as good as Monaleen and Mungret underage.
If Ahane beat the well on Friday they have a better chance of staying senior A than Ballybrown next year with the players they have coming through.
