Do people here think rory played poor against antrim? The man scored with nearly every chance and won numerous frees that were converted. Pretty sure he drew a few yellow cards also. Not easy play in the full forward line when a man down either. Him and byrne done alot of work that day Waltermitty2 (Wexford) - Posts: 266 - 23/04/2025 17:20:57 2603909 Link 1 |
Marketing and promotion of intercounty is done and finished with the introduction of the intercounty split season. We can't even have a proper build up to an aireland final but hey at least a fella in the club knows when he can take a holiday and we can throw a few concerts into croke park in the height of the summer, that's way more important. There isn't time to do what you advocate, we have superstars of the game and they're almost an inconvenience, something to get out kf the way ASAP tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1478 - 23/04/2025 17:24:08 2603910 Link 0 |
It is. But my favourite. Rivals Nowlan Park for proximity to bar. Not that this is my main readon of course! Great venue. Crowd worth a few points when coming down straight. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3438 - 23/04/2025 18:02:53 2603912 Link 0 |
In fairness, there's far more of a vibe off your post. What did Magpie say that's so offensive? He's only stating facts. The lads want to travel so fair enough. We use the lads we have.

Assuming Jippo is fit and neither Shane Reck nor Jack Redmond are, I think we could see.... ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 444 - 23/04/2025 18:48:26 2603915 Link 0 |
Looks like jack Redmond could be a doubt too. I wonder will they consider putting Richie lawlor in the half forward line as he's capable of winning his own ball.. juan31 (Wexford) - Posts: 166 - 23/04/2025 21:08:37 2603930 Link 0 |
You totally on the ball there Zinny, I heard that BS about Dublin going on for last 20 years, yet if you take Minor, U21/20 and senior I wouldn't be surprised if the won 75% of the games? Years thinking we better than we are, dosent get you anywhere….

I am guilty of it myself and I stand by it. It's hard to put into words but I'll try. In my view, Wexford produce more natural hurlers. What I mean when I say that is lads who are instinctively good at the wristy stuff. At senior level in particular, I believe our ceiling is higher than there's. However, Dublin teams are always good athletes, who do the simple things well, and make few mistakes. The compound of that is they are very consistent, which amounts to better team performances. Last season as actually a really great example. We were excellent against Kilkenny and Galway. So so against Dublin, but really poor in the second half against Antrim. That put us in an awful position. Dublin weren't great in any game. But were good enough to plug away in every game, which got them crucial points and a place in the Leinster final which they absolutely deserved. In short, Dublin were reasonably good over 5 games. We were great for a total of about 130 minutes in 5 games, at fairly weak for 40 crucial minutes which cost us badly. Namely 10 minutes against Dublin and Antrim, and 20 vs Kilkenny. Chin, Rory, Reck and jippo are absolute superstars. Burke is very good. O Donnell is class. Collectively Dublin are a solid team, but ultimately Wexford have better players. I hope that gives you some context. It's not arrogance, it doesn't mean we have a divine right to beat them. It is reality. It is also reality that Dublin are better than us at doing just enough to sneak close games than we are. We can consistently hurl them off the field for 59 minutes each year and somehow find a way to not win. That's extremely frustrating and I dread playing them above all others in Leinster. They've 100% gotten inside my head and have been doing it since 2007. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3512 - 23/04/2025 22:24:16 2603945 Link 0 |
Agree 100%. Both had to work hard. And they did.

Is there any word on Sutcliffe and Burke? OpenStandWall (Wexford) - Posts: 238 - 23/04/2025 22:43:07 2603954 Link 0 |
We beat them in 2008, and 2018. Only another 3 years to wait Doyler!!!

On reflection what you say is correct. Rory is capable of much more but with Jacko gone he was never going to be the threat he normally is. Hopefully we'll see the real Rory on Saturday. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 428 - 24/04/2025 00:16:02 2603968 Link 0 |
They're historically better than as at minor. We've the upper hand at 20/21 We're pretty much neck and neck for the last 20 years at those grades. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3512 - 24/04/2025 07:15:54 2603977 Link 0 |
We are playing Laois in the u20 QF. Will be a tough game, these lads knocked ourselves and Kilkenny out at minor 3 years ago, and ran Offaly very close in the Minor final that year. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15453 - 24/04/2025 07:21:27 2603978 Link 0 |
Before 2019 I don't think we beat Dublin in a knockout game at minor since 2008, and we lost in 05 and 07 to them also. They're record against us at minor in knockout hurling is way better than ours against them in the last 20 years. Tbh we have a shocking record at minor in general since the 90s. Before 2019 we hadn't beaten Kilkenny since 1998 in knockout minor, and we haven't since either. We haven't beaten Galway in knockout minor since the 1980s. We hadn't beaten a Munster county in knockout minor since the 60s when we beat Cork last year. And yet you still get lads around here who say we are worse at underage than we used to be. That has the look of a good team . Playing Lawlor wing forward may be our best option given Jacko's absence . Lawlor is excellent in the air so it gives us an option from the puck outs . He is hurling well wing back though and I would probably move him back there once Jacko is back. I think Shane Reck trained last Saturday fully and Keith said he will be available so I would expect either him or Jippo to start . Probably not both of them

True although for whatever reason, they had two very poor results against Offaly and Galway in the league phase

That forward line you named may well be the team that lines out. With the exception of Chin it looks very lightweight. Of course we simply don't have guys with experience to replace Jacko. Dublin will have a good deal of physicality in their back six so we will have to use speed and skill to overcome their height advantage. Jack Redmond and Tucker Kinsella are options but both have limited experience at this level. If Redmond is unavailable then it's odds on that Richie will play wing forward and the other five will probably be as they were last Saturday. It's so important that when our lads come off the bench they make an impact. That is a worry based on the Antrim game. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 428 - 24/04/2025 10:00:10 2603994 Link 0 |
