I understand that people see logistics as an issue but can I ask an honest question. If a player from Fethard or Duncannon is on the county minor panel, how is he got to training in Ferns? ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1302 - 08/04/2025 12:43:54 2601084 Link 0 |
You'd have to think it would be coming off the bench v Galway and starting vs Offaly if anything.

Molloy deserves to start but we were saying that at the end of the league last year about Casey and he barely featured in the championship. It'd have to be for McGuckian, I can't see Donohoe getting dropped.

We're about 10 days out now, is anyone willing to give predictions for these 5 round robin games and where we'll end up? OpenStandWall (Wexford) - Posts: 231 - 08/04/2025 13:34:00 2601099 Link 0 |
Mac needs to offer more workrate to be an automatic starter. He only scored 1 point against Clare in his last Championship outing, and did very little else. If he made more runs he would get on more ball and score more, as he did against Kilkenny, although it was the defensive side of his game was lacking in Nowlan Park.

We could win all 5 and end up in a Leinster Final. Or lose 4 and get relegated. How about that for sitting on the fence ;-) Realistically if we can win our home games, it would be a good start, after that alot will depend on how Galway and Dublin are going. Which noone can predict right now. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15356 - 08/04/2025 14:18:54 2601105 Link 0 |
I'm extremely apprehensive about this but just for fun Beat Antrim at home Draw away to Dublin Lose in Galway Beat Offaly at home Hopefully a Leinster final at stake and a legendary victory over the old enemy in a packed Wexford park I think they'll all be tight games and my assumption is everyone drops points somewhere and we stay injury free with some consistency. Our best back 6 will not be picked for any game I'd guess.

Could be wide off the mark but ill have a go anyway. I think if we play anything like we can Saturday week against Antrim especially in the Park we should win with a couple of points to spare all going well. Davy might have a trick or two up his sleeve however and we have to be ready. The Dublin away game is extremely hard to call . There are our bogey team havent beaten them since 2018. Id go with a draw. Galway away next . We'll be rested having a week off before hand which will help. Donohoe will have Galway more competitive this year but I think we can win up there Ill go Wexford by 1 or 2 points Offaly at home next. A real danger game for us and one we must win if we are to progress. Offaly are improving and there can be no room for complacency here. I think our experience will win out but not by much maybe 4 or 5 points max I think the Kilkenny game will be a de facto Leinster semi final for us again! Im going to predict Kilkenny will have won all their games before playing us so will already be through to the Leinster final . This would give us a great chance but KK will always fight tooth and nail to beat us. I think we will sneak a win only just leaving us on 7 points which hopefully would be enough for a Leinster final. The first two games are massive for us. Win those and then we have two weeks to prepare for Galway. If we can get two wins in our first two games it gives us a super chance of finish at least 3rd and we will know heading into the rest week that we need to beat two of Offaly Galway and Kilkenny to reach the Leinster final. If we win our first 2 games and don't pick up any injuries we will make the final.

Damien being out would be a big blow

Getting a result in Dublin would be massive for us and would give us huge momemtum

Cian Molloy should be the starting centre-back even if Damien was starting IMO, we really don't have many options at #6 otherwise, have a feeling they'll go with Foley though ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 424 - 08/04/2025 17:17:37 2601137 Link 0 |
If Reck is out, its a big blow, but his injury record is all too frequent unfortunately. I predict us to beat Antrim, after a struggle in the first half only to find our way after the break and win by a few. Dublin are our bogey team, but have been disappointed by them thus far under new management and hard to to gauge how good they are. Will be no more than a score in it either way, and going to pick us to end our recent hoodoo. Like Dublin, Galway haven't set the world alight under Donohoe's return, but I am always wary of their physicality vs. us. Think they'll edge it. Offaly game has the makings of a ding-dong tussle. They will have that date circled in a big red marker since the draw and won't fear us one bit. Still think they are perhaps a year or two from really upsetting the apple cart, so pick us to win and leave us in a comfortable spot against KK. Murmurings of discontent in Kilkenny about their progress under Lyng, but as cliche as it sounds, you can never rest on your laurels against them. I do hope they have a final secured by then, because I would fear a reaction if they NEED to win to progress. Good, old-fashioned draw. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1477 - 08/04/2025 18:03:46 2601145 Link 0 |
We can't seem to keep our most experienced players consistently fit. Damien Reck had a slow start to the league getting over injuries. I'm not a fan of him at 6 at all but at his best he is definitely one of our best. Any kind of win v Antrim would be welcome. Bar about 3 or 4 players, that display up there last year was shameful really. Tactics, if there were any bar lumping it in Lee Chin's general direction, were non existent. The previous year Antrim very nearly caught us in the second half at home, after we had a very easy first half. So it's going to be a difficult game, first round games usually are. Id like to see some kind of shape to our defence, where the focus is more on conceding less as a unit and not every man for himself. With the ball a bit of pattern to our play (i.e. less lumping it long). If we do that we will win but will be a struggle Id say.. Shane Reck would be a big loss too. What game is he expected to be back for? We are going to pick up injuries over the 5 round robin games I just hope its not our key men!

Chin has been named captain for the year again. Hearne is this years vice captain . Delighted for Hearne he has came on leaps and bounds and is now one of our most consistent players. Id have Jippo, Damien Reck, Hearne , Chin and Rory as our main key men . If we keep them on the field fit in the championship we'll have a chance.
