Replying To BarneyGrant:  "You really need to do a bit of reading. Starting with Stalin Hitler Pact.

Seconly, the American support that allowed Stalin recover from gis catastrophic error.

For a start."
There's nothing published on WW2 that I haven't read.

I have issues with Britain, but give them the credit they deserve. The escape from France, the battle of Britain are the greatest military achievements in history.

American money and equipment played a major role. American troops not so much. This is a Hollywood fiction fed to us for decades and is not reality.

Stalin destroyed his own army through fear of being overthrown. Once his army recovered the Nazis were no match for them.

Replying To Ryanteam:  "Project 25 if it is enacted will change America. Right now, immigrants are vilified on right wing TV stations like Fox News, and the New Year could see detention centers scattered around America. Right wing philosophy is sweeping across world, and even in Ireland, the anti immigration lobby is gaining momentum. A country which has sent immigrants for centuries to all parts of globe, resisting immigration to it's own country?"
You sound like one of those demented CNN broadcasters :-) Ones who couldn't handle the result.

You are right though. Emigration from here means we have no business controlling any amount of people coming here while emigration continues. We would still be living in mud cabins if it wasn't for the English immigrants, and we would have no hospitals if it wasn't for the immigrants from everywhere else. Nor even be in the Olympics coming fourth.

Replying To Ryanteam:  "Britain was on the ropes on both fronts in early years of war. Japan swept all before them with little resistance from the British, and the Germans chased them all the way to Dunkirk, and devastated them in North Africa. The Americans gave Britain much needed aid, and with entry into the war turned the war against a formidable Japanese foe. The Russians broke the back of Germans at Stalingrad, and the Eastern front was a quagmire. On the contrary, Britain finished the war much poorer, and Churchill was only a bit player next to Roosevelt and Stalin. The demise of the British Empire was complete!"
That's is the crux of it.

Britain didn't win the war by winning the war of the skies, the just managed to keep the Germans at bay and push back the blitz.

The Soviets and Americans crashed the Nazis and Churchill sent 1000s of young British men to get killed In the crossfire to cement his own legacy within Britain.

It should be remembered that Churchill was booted out of office following the war, and embarked on a subsequent propaganda campaign to regain power that Hitler would've been impressed with.

Isn't every country divided in the way they vote ? Don't you want a close election, that's called democracy. Otherwise it'd be called a dictatorship or communism.
Why do you think it's a bitter divide ? I've lived here for over 30 years, in a liberal state & most people believe it was the right decision for the country.
The democrats want everybody to be accepting but they can't accept when they lose

Actually, I am, as they say, in the departure lounge of life. No canvassing for anyone , any party or any policy. I have lived my whole life here in the country I love, with all its faults, electoral or otherwise. This little country has come a long way during my lifetime, and most of us living here are proud to call ourselves Irish. So, best of luck to you in your adopted country and I hope you enjoy all the bounties which your hero has promised to deliver. Hopefully, you can live the American dream, make your fortune and it will improve your disposition so you won't have to get involved in disparaging my countries electoral system or its national debt. Now, do have a nice day."
Please explain where I'm wrong

About time we learnt to have compassion for people less fortunate than ourselves. Now that Ireland's economy is strong and growing, immigrants can help grow it even further. Most immigrants come to work, and use them to build affordable housing throughout country. Ireland's young people are going to Australia, and likewise we can be welcoming to people from diverse countries. It will strengthen Ireland!

English "immigrants" lol. FYI, Irish people have been using stone for construction since Neolithic times, and the first English-Norman invaders constructed largely-earthen (motte and bailey) castles.

I'm a corporate lawyer, and I work inside the deficiencies of the adversarial common law system, with its emphasis on primitive aggression and punishment. The Irish Brehon law system wiped out by the British was a vastly more civilised legal system, one which had a greater emphasis on restitution and community-based justice, and in which women were afforded much more respect than in the Christian-inspired common law.

Most of the best RAF pilots were Polish immigrants. But you won't pick that up from reading Biggles

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "I'm no expert on politics but from what I remember hearing Trump won every swing state, he won the popular vote by 3 million votes,(I think) he won the electoral college votes comfortably to be elected President.
The Republicans won a majority in both Houses, considering all the mud they threw at Trump and the Republicans I'd call that a fair oul landslide victory, not a massive landslide I'll grant you.
I never said Trump had any interest in de-escalating the Israeli genocide, I was saying he will try to de-escalate the war in Ukraine, the Democrats would have kept firing money and weapons at it, maybe even sent troops in who knows, Trump hopefully will bring a settlement there quickly before the whole thing blows up into a full blown war with NATO."
Trump will attempt to finish the Israeli war as quickly as possible, which means giving Netanyahu carte Blanche to do whatever he likes. Palestinians will be relocated, and Gaza resettled with Israelis.

Replying To IronSleeve:  "Firstly, Trump didn't have a landslide victory, he got less than 51% of the vote.

Secondly, Trump has no interest per se in de-escalation, only if it suits him. He hasn't been banging the phone to Netanyahu to de-escalate.
Trump does have an inordinate interest in dictators and their modus operandi, particularly Putin who he is obviously in thrall to. Trump is a Russian asset and will be played easily by Putin.

Americans do indeed have a history of sticking their noses into things all over the world (as do the Russians of course). But like a stopped clock, they're right the odd time and Ukraine is one of those rare times, the only pity is that they didn't support the Ukrainians wholeheartedly from Day One."
I agree with you. Support from Ukraine will be quickly withdrawn and a "deal" will result. Remains to be seen, if in a year or so, Putin, emboldened with Trump being in White House, will continue his aggressiveness!

Trump needs 60 Senate votes to advance his agenda. He doesn't have them, so his radical proposals will be shot down in senate. His recent attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz flop is a good example of that. No doubt, Trump would like to be a dictator and bypass Senate… but that ain't happening…

There were 79 polish airmen in the RAF at that time. A good few Irish as well. It's not only the pilots to consider.

The quality of their aircraft and the use of radar was key. 13 hours on netlist is a good watch of you'd like to learn about it.

Do you know what communism is? It's not a form of governance. It's an alternative economic system whereby the people own the means of production collectively. It's a brilliant idea if power didn't always corrupt people.

There's an assertion here that totally overlooks Ireland's contribution to global affairs in the last 100 years.

You should look up the "goodest country index" then come back again and try to say the Irish aren't compassionate.

We're statistically the most compassionate people on the planet.

The most laughable aspect of all this is that lads who are all "Oh, let us welcome everyone from everywhere" would have a fit if 300 lads from Dublin or their own county town rocked up to their local hotel and decided they were going to stay there.
