Hey man you're adding nothing constructive to any part of this. Can you kindly stop posting? Nobody is interested in any way

We await election of the increased number of TDs, from 160 in the last general election to 174. This is happening to satisfy the constitutional requirement of one representative per 20,000 to 30,000 population. If we cast the comparison net wider, the over-representation becomes more absurd. If India was to have the same ratio of national parliamentarians to its population as we have in the Dáil, they would require about 45,000 parliamentarians instead of their current number of 543. I wonder what is the real politics behind this move. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3045 - 13/11/2024 10:56:30 2579481 Link 0 |
I forgot to suggest, our government should head hunt Michael O' Leary to oversee the housing shortage issues and appoint Eoin Ó Broin as his assistant / advisor.

Well said Breffni. Nearly nobody else is interested anyway.

So the Help-to-Buy scheme is pushing up prices. Why? Because it's enabling more people to afford a mortgage, thus increasing housing demand. A good or bad thing? Good, obviously. But Eoin O'Broin is putting a negative spin on it for his own political gain. Let's hope the electorate see through this. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5181 - 13/11/2024 11:36:34 2579489 Link 0 |
Apologies lads, just was having a rough count of how many times that poster has engaged with me since he said he wouldn't anymore last year. He thought I was trying to guess his age yesterday, bless Only a rough count though, probably is more. Anyway I'll leave ye at it and hopefully he'll get a new hobby or significant other soon. Michael O'Leary's class have run the country for 100 years. He runs a cheap airline out of state built airports! Anyone thinks he is the solution to anything other than making money for himself and providing cheap short haul flights needs to give their head a wobble! Fair play to him by the way. He is good at what he does. Just not at running the state perhaps. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3102 - 13/11/2024 11:50:25 2579493 Link 0 |
Explain how pushing up house prices enables more people to afford a mortgage and increasing demand is a good thing? FFGG, AKA The Government, will try putting a positive spin on it too. The same Government who had a new Junior Minister for Housing who'd boast about how much they were spending on housing and how many houses they were building. But he couldn't could the number of houses he owned, in the middle of a housing crisis! He didn't resign and they wouldn't sack him. Might upset their middle class electorate. Not a good look for me. Hopefully the electorate will sack them. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7642 - 13/11/2024 11:57:53 2579495 Link 0 |
He'd probably build paper houses for very slightly less and abuse people for complaining when it rains

As O'Leary himself might say..... I wouldn't hire him to run a State.

How is it a good thing? Is that not obvious? It has enabled 50'000 people to buy houses since it's introduction. That's a good thing IMO. It tackles the main blocker to home buying - the deposit, with the trade-off being a longer mortgage or a slightly higher monthly payment (which is still lower than market rent). That's a good trade-off IMO. The reason SF don't like it is nothing to do with overall house price. It's because it works by giving tax payers back money they have paid in tax over the previous 4 years. And those people, as we all know, are not SF's voting base. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5181 - 13/11/2024 13:28:31 2579513 Link 0 |
Anyone reading your posts would think you think high house prices are a good thing. And you weren't happy when Doylerwex asked were you wanting to pull up the ladder?!

I haven't said high prices are a good thing. I've stated that high prices can only exist when demand is there. And demand can only be there is large numbers of people can afford houses. I didn't take issue with Doylerwex about "pulling the ladder up". It was Breffni I took issue with and he then clarified that he wasn't referring to me. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5181 - 13/11/2024 14:07:06 2579521 Link 0 |
High prices exist when supply is restricted. Prices are determined by Demand and Supply, not just demand.
