Replying To BarneyGrant:  "There is no difference between the current government and any of the likely replacements in any combination.

PBP are too infantilely leftist to be serious contender.

The only differences are marginal ones like promising how many more hospital beds/houses/teachers/guards they will supply! Same old, same old.....

On all the fundamentals from EU to foreign corporation tax, abortion, immigration, national sovereignty vis a vis UK they are all on same page. Could all comfortably be in American Democratic Party which they all support and in some cases have been funded by."
Hard to disagree with any of that. A friend of mine always says we need a new "Republic". New constitution, the works. Be able to sack non performing civil servants etc. Middle management in HSE and other public bodies would love that !! A lot in what he says but it will never happen.

Any hints as to what might be in this new Constitution?
Does he realise it would have to be voted on?

That's why I said it would never happen.

"Any hints as to what might be in this new Constitution? - - That depends on who would write it, don't you think.?
Does he realise it would have to be voted on?" - - - My guess is if it went as far as to be written then it would be voted on. What way the vote would go would depend on it's contents.

Would be interesting to hear his proposals though.
Or is it just a mantra like "Change"?

What people dontseem to realise is that a general apathy towards our politicians is a good thing.

It's like the referee in a football match - if you don't notice him, then he's probably had a fairly good game.

We've had a succession of stable, steady-handed governments and I think the majority will vote in something similar for another term.
Compare this to the choice facing the USA next week or the one Britain made in the summer. We're in a good place as a nation. Those who complain would complain no matter who is in charge.

The "economy". What ever happened to "society"?

All we will be in 40/50 years is a glorified industrial estate and financial centre in which half of population will have been born overseas with hundreds of thousands of younger Irish people living overseas.. And that's the official estimate and they tend to be wrong on the low side.

There will be no such thing as the Ireland we have known any more. Happy days.

I think you'll find that 'society' is under more threat from attitudes like yours towards migration than from actual migration itself. .

How many people had to leave Ireland in the "good old days" never to come back?
1 million? 2 million?
Now that we can stay at home or go abroad voluntarily and others can come here to earn a living we're ruined according to the Barneys of the world.
620,000 people working in foreign companies here.

Now now I'm sure Barney has evidence and stats to back up his statement.

Do we not all miss the glory days before the immigrants came in and ruined it.

No more Catholic Church running schools or Mother Baby homes look what we have had taken away.

Now how do I put a tri colour on a post here.

When Simon Harris became party leader and Taoiseach he had a golden opportunity to reshuffle his front bench, I am not saying a minister that is not delivering or not doing a good job should be sacked instead he / she should given a more user-friendly / manageable portfolio, it's too serious to ignore.

The unofficial definition of a "centrist" is one who sits on the fence.
