That's incredibly naive thinking.

Our eldest girl is in third year and they leave their phones in their locker for the day for more than two years. Reducing phone time for children and adults too is no bad thing. But these pouches are ridiculous and a waste of taxpayers money. In their 'giveaway' budget where they think they can recycle taxpayers money to win votes."
I agree with you totally but me thinks this might be another example of their kite flying in a pre election budget… talk about bringing in something stupid and then row back and try and curry favour with the electorate…. They really do think ordinary voters will fall for this nonsense….. They are the greatest joke of a government that ever led the country….!

How so?

The UK has minor influence in this region perhaps, less so since brexit, but nothing in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, South America or indeed North America. In their own heads they think they have a 'special relationship' with the USA, when in reality the USA treats them as the elderly father, listening to them talk and give advice, but not paying heed to it.

I'll say again if it wasn't a nuclear power it would have zero influence altogether.

Yeah. . While I don't think they'll quite hit that number, I do think they'll lead the next government.

For all the moaning and talks of various crises, people in Ireland, on the whole, don't have it as bad as some would want you to believe.

Hard to see a 14 seat majority for them after giving people back what they've spent in tax. A few tighter votes in some constituencys could turn that. And a few weeks of increased carbon tax will hit their popularity with motorists. Harry has done some good work. More accurate projections than based on opinion polls.

Bicycle shed costing €355,000, Security hut costing €1.4 million, Mobil phone pouches € 9 million, not to mention the new children's hospital that may not be finished until late 2025 or early 2026, costs spiraling out of control at 3 billion ish.

I think FF/FG would make a better next Gov without the Greens or a few independents helping them so I hope they get that majority,
I think SF missed the boat last time and they have fallen away since that.

All the talk about American politics and our own democracy is in big trouble. Instead of a revolving door we now have one super party with two different marketing strategies that can't be challenged.

I'll be glad to see the greens go though.

I miss a strong labour party. They got the blame for all of endas accounting butchery that got us into this property mess.

Imagine sinn Fein managed to win over all the independents, pbp, SD etc. to form a government. The manifesto would become so diluted that the government would collapse in about a month.

But maybe obscene money wouldn't be wasted on bike sheds and security huts and let's not get started on the children's hospital in what's now seen as an embarrassing project by the whole world…. Yes FF/FG are doing a fine job….The Greens are dust…!

They get the blame for it because they sold out their voters and backed it to the hilt.

There's a clip, think it's still on YouTube, of Ruari Quinn announcing planned housing legislation in the Dail and Richard Boyd Barrett essentially saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) . . "Party politics aside, please please don't do this. You will railroad the country into a housing crisis"

A strong Labour, who stood by their manifesto when elected, would be a great governing party indeed. They've had multiple chances to do so and have failed every single time.

Social Democrats are a career party only with nothing to offer. Both the Labour Party and the Social Democrats lack leadership qualities.

Carefully picked independanc supporting FF is the way to go. (If possible). If not refer to plan B.

That would be far too many independents to form any kind of stable government tho.
Independent Ireland did well in the locals but would they fall into line under a party whip in a Dail coalition? I doubt it.

Plan A is FF/ FG (+ others as reqd)
Plan B is probably FF/SF but SF aren't presenting themselves as a viable coalition party with their "no-to-everything" approach to opposition.

There is such a thing as constructive opposition - see FF during the C+S agreement in the last Dail.
