Not good enough consistently good to be a regular starting player for the seniors. Same as as a lot of good underage players that don't make the grade at senior level, for whatever reason.

Can anyone throw any light as to why your convention was deferred

Unless media speculation is very much in error the postponement is related to a revenue audit.

How do people think we'll do v Dublin? I've no confidence at all this season

I think we will do well to stay in division 1. I've zero optimism for this year. We have a raft of very good young players in the county but they are 3-4 years away from senior. Could be a rocky few years ahead.

Hard to know Davittsman. We've a good few out, they need to give a few new faces a chance during the League. Dublin will have a lot of changes too. Will be interesting to see how teams adapt to the new rules in competitive games. Hopefully the balance in our forwards will improve. We're still too reliant on Ryan for scores. Need to improve the confidence of the other forwards. Looking forward to Ah Ref pod this week as the year starts and we still have faith!

Its hard to know how the league will go, the new rules will have big impact. I do hope Mayo give new players a good run of games, and they might have to do this anyways with players not back yet or injured.
With the new rules, players with pace are even more important, and with the 2 point arc and the possibility of more space to attack, shooting and kick pass are vital to take advantage of new rules.
Mayo have always been able to bring through athletic players but maybe lacking in kicking ability, for inter county level.
It suits defensively as the full back line have always been left exposed/one on one so should be used it really, other counties that played a very defensive system will struggle and will test there full back line one on one defending.

I dont mind at all if Mayo get relegated, as long as new players are getting plenty of game time and the team are playing to a system or trying to find a way of playing. I do think Mayo will do better than most are thinking, and will win a few games.

The AH ref podcast, it fills a gap and be popular with people that are away, but I wouldn't be to excited over it. They talk alot of rubbish on it, like listening to lads on a bar stool, and that lad from Garrymore is an awful spoofer.

Sure that's why I like it Tommy! You get a few characters on there like you'd like to meet at a match. A bit of craic. Mayo News pod has some good analysis but they take themselves a bit too serious and I wouldn't pay for the extra pods. Mayo are Back are the other end of the scale entirely! I have to be in strange humour for that.

Dublin worth their win tonight but some of the new faces did well. A decent game for a cold January night. Fergie Boland played some great stuff. I thought we spent way too much time fretting outside the two point zone while Dublin seemed more direct. A lot to work on ahead of the Galway game.

Will we even win a game in the league this year? Absolute shambles.

Jaysus mayo have regressed something fierce, always liked mayo football but they are where toothless today, embarrassing stuff and honestly can't see where the improvements will come from!!! AOs can't do it all, Durkin ACL return, Tommy no goals???
Div 2 bound and to fizzle out of Connacht and AI at first knockout hurdles I'm afraid.
End of mcstay

The new rules don't suit Mayo has they have no long range shooters. A running game will only get you so far. That was pathetic today. Clueless.

I don't think the lack of long range shooters is the problem I believe that taking long range shots is frowned upon by management. Was Toweys 2 pointer the only one today. I know that on multiple occasions players were wide open and refused to take the shot from just beyond the arc. That's all I de practicing now in training. Two points is too valuable not to take. In the end today whether from play or frees the two pointer was the difference. As for three players not staying in our half of the pitch at all times is baffling

Funny I've seen comments here and elsewhere on the mayo blog from rossies saying their s&c went backwards when McStay was in charge. Aside from our woeful skills execution we don't look as fit and physically miles off it. We used to be the masters of this and bullied teams. Now we look like the small light ladeens.

It's frowned upon because they know they are kicking it wide...

It's a mixture of the players capability and instructions from the line.
