McBennett & Mohan when fit are easily our 2 best midfielders. However, Mohan at FF can be top notch !

Will Sunday's game be full to capacity? What's the capacity of drogheda? Years since I went to a game there but surely with health and safety it can't be high. Yes I would agree great chance for promotion, a win Sunday sets it up. Louth won't be no pushovers by any means and a win for them puts them right in contention. Will this be last round we see of beggan roaming??

interesting take from a comprehensive win...by the same logic you can thank beggan for his numerous saves too for keeping us well ahead...beggan has been brilliant this year. for every goal we've scored he's saved one id say win and learn - we are going well but who knows what championship will bring playing a division 1 team its so great watching monaghan players express themselves on the field but valid point on the midfield, lost too many kickouts vrs rossies too MalsBalls (Monaghan) - Posts: 209 - 25/02/2025 11:06:41 2593111 Link 0 |
Good point about the goals slightly masking the midfield issue. Once the Cork keeper stopped putting them out over the sideline, they must have won 90% of their own kickouts. If O'Hanlon hadn't played, doubtful if we would've won that match. His ability to run at pace and regularly beat defenders is something that we don't have elsewhere. Hopefully he can stay fit. moodoo (Monaghan) - Posts: 457 - 25/02/2025 12:44:15 2593139 Link 0 |
McPhillips is doing a good job but seems to run of out road at around the 50-55 minute mark. You'd have to credit McCarville too, getting 100% out of himself in this campaign. Woods probably a better option for FF outlet than Mohan. Dylan Byrne and Louis Kelly have added big time to the options for GB also. Interesting to see a starting XV when more senior players are fit and available. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1152 - 25/02/2025 12:48:24 2593141 Link 0 |

Bannigan's post match comments with Fergal Monaghan about McCaul were interesting. McCaul has played more than expected but has been very impressive at midfield. Even though he's only 19, he's already a better fielder than McCarville or McPhillips. The latter two have decent ball skills, but they lack that bit of ruthlessness and aggression that Mohan brings. I can see Mohan being first choice when fit. McBennett is a very accurate attacking threat but the more one v one aspect from the new rules is not suiting him. I know he scored in both of the first two games, but honestly the game was somewhat drifting around him rather than him influencing it. He' not as good a fielder or ball winner as others and lacks pace. There is a decent chance McCaul becoming a starter in some championship games this year. He's ready. Will be interesting to what the team will be come championship. O'Connell will be back soon. Wilson, McAnespie, and Mohan are all due back before the end of the league. Bannigan did say Dessie Ward is longer term injury , but in what context did he mean that - months, weeks ? sleater (Monaghan) - Posts: 171 - 25/02/2025 14:05:13 2593153 Link 0 |
