A very entertaining game today. Thought we looked very vulnerable at the back though. Once Westmeath figured out that all they had to do was run at us, we looked like conceding heavily. Can't argue with our scoring return though, for the second game in a row.

2 from 2... How bad. Big game against Roscommon now. Harder tests coming, but a lot of good signs so far.

Great win and some brilliant scores , Conor McCarthyi was in flyin form. A lot of positives again from this performance.on the down side we have to tighten up the back a lot , there's probably a system that hasn't been found yet in the new rules to close up shop at the back.Michael Hamills injury is a big blow

Was quietly confident we'd do alright this year as team not as bad as they looked last year when hammered by injuries and loss of form confidence the whole Rory distraction. Good wins over cavan and westmeath now although wouldn't mind us a bit tighter in defence. We won't score 2-29 in too many more games. Roscommon who embarrassed us last year be interesting game. Its our hardest game left with the rest definitely winnable. Performance key in the Hyde avoid repeat of last year be grand rest of league.

A win for the under 20s today over Cavan in first round of Ulster league also I see which is a great start for the young lads, Paul Curran is brewing nicely for a crack at the seniors in a few years. Is many of Malones minors involved? Any panel?"
There is no under 20 Ulster football league it is just championship in March. That was the under 20 hurlers that played Cavan

A good win for the small ball code so as the seniors lost 2-24 to 12 points to Louth in the basement division over the weekend or have I the wrong team there as well ;) but that raises a genuine question why is there no u20 league and it's just into championship? Can only imagine there training to game ratio

Yes. Impressive attacking display - all the forwards moved well and contributed (including Sean Jones although he didn't score) plus midfield and especially Conor McCarthy who was unplayable and Beggan as always.

You would worry about the defence when it comes up against stronger forward lines (like Roscommon's) Westmeath could easily have had two or three more goals yesterday. We had problems defending last year under the old rules and the new ones have only increased the challenges we have when teams run at us. Not sure what the answer is as we don't have many effective man markers - Ryan Wylie back in 2018 outplayed many of the best corner forwards in the country but he struggles to do that anymore.

Still overall a very positive start for the new management

Have to be happy with the look of the new team. Half back line is an issue though, despite the impact of McCarthy on the offensive side of things. Monaghan's options have tightened now with Hamill and McAnespie out for the foreseeable. McBennett do well but still learning the ropes as an intercounty centre half back, and Ryan O'Toole has struggled against pace.
Roscommon have a big scoring threat from half forward, so someone like Colm Lennon as a more defensive minded player could come in, possibly giving O'Toole a break. Daire Cregg will have the legs on Wylie and the experience over young Byrne so maybe Jason Irwin to do a job there, with RW well suited to Enda Smith further out.
The two week break is welcome before what has become a huge game for both teams.

Gabe's babes are flying!

Presumably an attacking approach was the intention against westmeath and Gabriel did acknowledge afterwards that he wouldn't be impressed with conceding so much...but unlike previous managers who were too methodical at times and approached every game too conservatively it was refreshing to see us confident as we should be against a lesser side. It was a very "jurgen klopp" set up and I particularly enjoyed the last goal because a past Monaghan side would just try to "grind out" a result... something I've grown to hate...I just wonder what a top team like Galway would've done to them. Id guess the difference would be at least double digits.

Anyway so far so good and still lads to return to the panel. We were missing two of our best players remember in ohanlon and bannigan...add dessie ward, Mohan and duffy too who should assist in defensive duties.

Roscommon will be a great opportunity for us to prove ourselves further and hopefully instill confidence where there might be some doubt

Is there anywhere we can see a video online of the Westmeath v Monaghan match last weeked.
Monaghan v Roscommon should be a very competitive match

He has been a massive player for us in the last two games, winning dirty ball and driving through the opposition with his speed and determination.

Best of luck to all the Monaghan players taking part in the Sigerson, Trench and Freshers finals this week. Could be up to 15 Monaghan lads involved across the 3 finals.
