Putting in a great effort but no cigar. Must win next week against Cavan to have any hope of staying up.

Replying To OverTheHill85:  "I don't think you can say we'd definitely win anything with last year's squad, they were very average in division 3 but just got the job done before losing to Wicklow. A lot of these younger players are probably better than what retired only for the fact they weren't tried and trusted while the old guard was still there, Kevin Maguire aside, Heslin probably a long way from his best days.

The squad probably know they are limited at this level and are therefore leaving everything out there with nothing to lose essentially.

Having to pour everything into the League will make the championship very difficult again."
The point he was making was that the management style of play at the monent is an attacking at pace-which they are doing very well.Last year it was about not conceding scores in a totally defensive set up-and no young players brought through.Just a pity some of those lads who left or retired-having given brilliant service to the county-didnt give it a bit longer to help all these young lads settle in.

Replying To Upforthegame23:  "It really was the manner in which you guaranteed westmeath would have been beaten but you know that yourself, nothing to do with sensitive people. Westmeath were very good yesterday again. Are very unlucky not to have got at least a point out of game. But as you said you guaranteed they would lose. I just have a problem with that, you can't guarantee the result. But you probably enjoyed the game in the fabulous stadium in Cork. A true westmeath gael"
i guaranteed it and was right

Replying To OverTheHill85:  "Doubtful. Could have been bet by a greater margin perhaps."
In my opinion the Smyth Daly rotation is the key.

Predictions for Division 1
Downs win by 4
Shamrocks win by 5
Athlone win by 11/12
Kinnegad by 7
Moate by 2

I struggle to see the Loams getting a win, but I'll take it if they do. The fact that Jason Daly will be playing is a huge boost for them. I heard they won't have Heslin for the first two rounds.

The Shamrocks should be beating Gcastle, especially since they only wrapped up the Leinster Championship at the end of November. I'd imagine they still have players who haven't returned yet, so that could be a disadvantage for them.

It's hard to see Shan getting a win, as they've only just appointed a manager recently, and Athlone has players like Shane Allen back I reckon Athlone will win this one fairly easily.

Kinnegad always strong in the league. They don't have too many players on the county panel, but they've got a lot of good, fit players. I think they'll win this one, and Cooney will have them well-drilled with the new rules and plays.

Moate, having won the U-20 competition, should have some good youth coming through, which makes me think they'll be in with a chance here. However, I imagine a few of their key players are still tied up with the U-20s, so it could go either way. It's hard to know exactly what any team will look like at this time of year, especially with so many players away traveling or on county panels.

In my prediction for the Loman's vs Downs match, I might upset a few Blues fans, but without players like O'Hara, McCartan, Gaffney, Geoghan, O'Toole, and potentially TJ or Fola withe county or travelling They'll be missing a large part of their main cohort. While they'll still have many of their usual backs, they'll be lacking key forwards, apart from Dempsey and Plunkett.

Are The Downs not missing Luke, Charlie Drumm, Jonathan Lynam, Darragh Egerton, Niall Mitchell, Joey Moran and Andrew Kilmartin? Possibly others?

Have any of the club teams gotten any stronger or weaker by way of new blood coming up or lads retiring or travelling? Or transfers in or out.? Does the county board issue a list of transfers at the start of the season or has there been anything significant

Watched Westmeath u20s play in abottstown on Sunday vs Wexford and was impressed. They didn't have ormbsy playing (presumably as he was on matchday squad for seniors day before) but were still impressive. Murray kicked some lovely frees and was effective throughout the game both in attack and defence. Baker came off injured in the first half with his hand but I don't believe it to be a big injury. Keane played 15 mins at the end and kicked a point. I would have hope for this team during the 20s campaign this year.

Do you reckon many from the CBS team will break into the starting 15?

I would have Matthew Thornton in corner forward. He was a good leader for cbs and it's his second year on the 20s panel. It's a pity scahill isn't eligible for this competition but judging by the schools final he will be one for the future. I'd love to see mikey weir playing too.
